Well, haven't updated this thread or my site, really, in quite some time, but this is pretty significant:

http://mag.desert-motors.com/

While I'd definitely appreciate feedback, input, criticism, try to keep it at least mostly constructive. Hopefully I don't even need to say that, but I've put a tremendous amount of work into this project and I've pretty much done it alone. As you can see by looking at it, not only did I put it together by myself, but I also shot and wrote everything in it.

Anyway, check it out, let me know what you think, pass it on, etc. The more readers, the better for many reasons... so if you know anyone that might think it's kinda cool, please send it to them. If you know another forum that might get a kick out of it, please post it there. I'd really like this to become something cool and something I can continue to do, but without a substantial amount of downloads/reads, it's never going to happen. Thanks!

"A smiley with mouth open wide as Grand Canyon"

Wow...

Reading through at the moment...

edit. Nice work, I cant see anything you could do better, the fact that every article has same author maybe Which makes it even more impressive.

The Ferrari article has some repeat in it, which nicely tells of the cars split nature.
So now you have driven some, I would say the comments of how the cars feel were good, I bet it was difficult to write without seeming too pro but not an entire noob.

I just read through the whole mag. Loved the pics and the articles are well written too. I really like the whole style of the mag too. Must have taken a shitload of time to put all of this together.

This is actually better than a lot of car mags I see in the local shop.

Will definitely tell others about this.

Thanks for the kind words, guys. So far it's been very well received, so I'm hoping I can continue to put out issues assuming I can get some more support.

And yeah, it's a fine line to walk when writing articles regarding driving the cars as I obviously don't have a ton of experience driving such cars and even less writing about it. But I definitely didn't want to come off as completely inexperienced, so I'm glad to hear that it sounds like I did alright in that regard. I'm hoping that those articles will loosen others up and allow me to drive more cars I write about, as that always makes them much more interesting and easier to write as well.

And I do intend to have more article authors and possibly photographers in future issues. It's all just very reliant on the amount of support I receive and a matter of finding people I'm confident in.

It's been spread around a fair amount so far and it's gotten a decent number of downloads, but I'm hoping it'll snowball to an extent as it gets posted around a bit more.

Great job Pat. I DL'd the issue off your FChat thread and I was very impressed. The articles were very well written, and as always, I loved the photos.

Keep it up dude. The sky's the limit.

Thanks, man. I'm really not sure what the future of the magazine will be. While it's been well received and I've received a lot of positive feedback, the amount of contribution I can get from the local community remains to be seen.

Thanks, man, I appreciate that. And that actually isn't the first time I've heard more or less that same thing from other people (including one of the area's serious collectors). That's actually one of the ideas behind the magazine. I figure even if it doesn't take off and I don't produce more issues (I think I will), I hope it will work as a sort of portfolio piece or resume builder.

oh for sure, if i was an editor and you brought that to my desk, i would be quite impressed. i wouldnt think too many people would go out of their way to just create a magazine, so your 1 up on most people.

i still think you should contact publishers about a book.
when i go to a book store and see the glossy car books, they all just lack interest. either lots of pics of average sports cars, or great pics of a couple of cars. with the access to the cars you have, and the back catalouge of images. your potential book would sell like hot cakes!

Alright, so a few questions.

What kind of cars would you most like to see in the next issue? Either car types, makes or models. Any input is appreciated. I'm going to try to keep it pretty broad again and currently have two cars lined up, one British and one Italian and both right around 2000.

What do you think of the non-article features? I'd like to have another featured user photo, but I don't really have any new users to feature at this point. How about the car guessing thing? Kinda fun/interesting, or not really worth the time? It doesn't take a ton of work, but if no one really cares about it, it just takes up space. How about something like "best driving music"? I know it's been done to death, but I thought I'd try to make it more obscure music, not any lame shit like Steppenwolf, taking suggestions from people online and adding some of my own. I'd also link it all up to some site online where you could listen to/buy all of them, like Amazon or something.

It's looking like I'll have some new article types, including some tech articles and a "local enthusiast bio" or something like that. So there should be a little more variety in the next one, but I really want to get as much feedback as I can so that I can try to provide what people actually want to see. Thanks in advance!

EDIT: And I meant to mention that I'm trying to get a bike of some sort. Possibly a rare Ducati or crazy custom of something like that.

I'll see what I can do about that. I can't think of anyone I know with any particularly cool wagons, though. I know a guy with a Volvo P1800ES, but that's not that remarkable or anything and I'm already probably going to shoot his Bimmer and one (or more) of his bikes.

I uploaded all the other photos of the Grabercars La Bala prototype that was in the magazine.
