here it is, the shortened sport auto Supertest of the Mercedes SLK 55 AMG Black Series, full specs and track test at the Nurburgring Nordschleife and the Hockenheim short track:
Nurburgring Nordschleife in 8:14 mins.
the SLK 55 AMG is nearly as fast as the much more powerful BMW M5, Viper SRT-10 or SL 65 AMG, even slightly fatser than the Alpina Roadster S or the Corvette C6, beats the standard SLK 55 AMG to 20 secs.!
the SLK 55 AMG Black Series is very agile, 1st it shows some understeer but finally some oversteer when accerlating out of a curve, if the track is bumpy, it takes some hectic work at the steering to keep it on track
the track time was achieved in automatic sport mode as the gear switches in manual mode take more time
Hockenheim short track in 1:14.4 mins.
here the SLK 55 AMG is nearly as fast as the Porsche 997 Carrera S and as fast as the Alpina Roadster S aqnd the BMW M6
even at the short track it shows the same handling with understeer when braking into the curve and oversteer when acceleration out of the curve
specs:
400 PS at 5,750 rpm 520 Nm at 3,750 rpm 5.439 litres 73.5 PS/litre compression 11.0:1
gear ratios 1st: 4.38 2nd: 2.86 3rd: 1.92 4th: 1.37 5th: 1.00 6th: 0.73 axle: 3.06
tyres: Pirelli P Zero Corsa, 235/35 ZR 19 in front, 265/30 ZR 19 in rear
MSRP: 107,300 EUR Price as tested: 109,800 EUR
weight: 1,506 kgs power-to-weight: 263.18 PS/ton weight distribution: 54.5/45.5 % in front/rear
acceleration: 0-100 km/h 4.7 secs. (4.9*) 0-160 km/h 10.1 secs. (10.5*) 0-200 km/h 16.3 secs. (16.7*) * standard SLK 55 AMG
80-120 km/h 4.1/6.1/12.4/15.0 secs. in 4th/5th/6th/7th gear
Vmax: 282 km/h
aerodynamic: 37/25 kg uplift in rear/front at 200 km/h
handling: 18 m slalom: 69.2 km/h
braking: 100-0 km/h in 34.7 m 200-0 km/h in 138.0 m no fading

Mercedes was bragging with the fact that in Manual mode the shifts take the least time, followed by Automatic Sport and then Automatic (50% slower than in M mode). Who's right?
Boulevardius Burnupius "Fate? Fate's just an illusion which takes the fear away. You trust fate? I trust no one. I'm not paranoid. I'm just independent. I spin the other way. I have no notion of time. I'm myself's whore. I know nothing but my needs, my ego, my thoughts, my cares, my loves, my hates, my world. Who am I?... I'm you."

the testers rather than the marketing guys
seems they had to work really hard and pretty busy on the steering keep it on rack and to achieve that time to shift the gears manually.

you can't retract the roof right?
Long separated by cruel fate, the star-crossed lovers raced across the grassy field toward each other like two freight trains, one having left Cleveland at 6:36 p.m. traveling at 55 mph, the other from Topeka at 4:19 p.m. at a speed of 35 mph.

Why take a hand off to shift manually? It has shift paddles attached to the steering wheel.
Even if the shifts took a bit less time (which I doubt, would be a Mercedes first), you wouldn't have the same control in automatic Sport mode; in any automatic mode for that matter.

What are they talking about? That's not anywhere close to as fast as a Z06. I think you made a boo-boo in translating Axle.

That's because Sport Auto never got close to GM's numbers for the Z06... I wonder what happened *rolleyes*.

It's because they can't take the awesomeness of the LS7 and probably drove it like a 90 year old women would for fear of killing themselves. Chuck Norris could get a sub 6 minute run if he ever drove one, because he's a real man.
ZOMG 75K... Do you feel a sense of accomplishment?

Yeah I agree. Part of the appeal of an SLK 55 to me is having a small roadster with RWD & a load of grunt to spend a day flying through the hills w/ the wind in your hair when you want.
This is for Chris Draper: A boot for Christmas.
