Nurburgring Nordschleife, 20.8 km: 7:35 mins.

lines up with the ...

7:33 - Pagani Zonda F
7:33 - Porsche 997 GT2
7:39 - TechArt GT street
7:47 - Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano
7:46 - Lamborghini Murcielago LP 640

Hockenheim short track: 1:10.2 mins.

lines up with the ...

1:08.6 - Porsche Carrera GT
1:09.9 - Koenisgegg CCR
1:09.9 - TechArt GT street
1:10.0* - Porsche 996 GT2 (*estimation)
1.10.8 - Pagani Zonda F
1:10.0 - Lamborghini Gallardo SE

0-200-0 km/h: 14.7 secs.

lines up with the ...

14.5 - Koenisgegg CCR
15.0 - Porsche Carrera GT
15.8 - Mercedes SLR McLaren
15.8 - Pagani Zonda F
15.9 - Ferrari 599 TB Fiorano
15.9 - TechArt GT street

aerodynamics:

11 kg uplift at the front
34 kg downforce at the rear
... at 200 km/h

the TR12 has more downforce at the rear axle as the 997 GT2 (29 kg) which changes the areodymic banlance, so at the front axle it cretas some uplift where the GT2 still has downforce. But this doen´t affect the handling at high speed, it acheives a top speed of 361 km/h

1.3g max. lateral acceleration at the track

was achieved with optinonal Micheli Pilot Cup Sport tyres which are limited to a top speed of 340 km/h. Standra are Continental SpopretConatct 2 Vmax tyres in the size of 235/30 ZR 19 in front and 325/20 ZR 19 in front

specs as tested:

3,734 ccm flat-6 twin-turbo engine
bore x stroke: 102.0 x 76.4 mm
compression: 9.4:1
max. turbo boost: 1.3 bar

650 PS/478 KW at 7,000 rpm
870 Nm from 3,500 to 4,000 rpm
173.5 PS/litre

Michelin Pilot Cup Sport tyres
235/35 ZR 19 in front, 325/30 ZR 19 in front

kerb weight: 1573 kg
416.7 PS/ton

0-100 km/h: 3.6 s
0-160 km/h: 6.8 s
0-200 km/h: 9.9 s

Vmax: 361 km/h

MSRP: 320,219 EUR (incl. all options)

18m slalom: 71.1km/h
36m slalom: 134 km/h

lines up with ...

134 km/h - Corvette ZR6
134 km/h - Lamborghini Mucrielago LP640
134 km/h - Porsche 997 Turbo
133 km/h - Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano
133 Km/h - Ford GT

110m evasion test: 148 km/h

lines up with ...

153 km/h - Lamborghini Murcielago LP640
153 km/h - Porsche 997 Turbo
150 km/h - Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano
146 km/h - Dodge Viper SRT-10
146 km/h - Mercedes CLK DTM AMG

with the AWD and a weight dirstribution of 39% in front and 61% in rear and a bit too comfortable suspension, it shows some tendeny to oversteer and is not that exactly to control. It takes the driver some efforts to control the oversteer in the evasion test, the Rt12 is a more sinsible than the 997 Turbo, a bit more nervous

wet handling: 1:131.8 mins.

the Rt12 also is a pefect daily driver even tough it comleted the wet handling track fitted with the Michelin Cup Sport semi-slicks. It stiil offered some grip and was respnding well to the brakes even though there is a tendey for aquaplaning

it lines up with ...

1:31.0 - BMW M6
1:31.6 - Porsche 997 Turbo
1:31.8 - Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano
1:33.4 - Techart GT street
1:33.5 - Koenisgegg CCR
1:34.2 - Pagani Zonda F

verdict: 74 out of 80 pts.

line sup with

76 pts. - Lamborghini Murcielago LP640
75 pts. - Pagani Zonda F
74 pts. - Koenigsegg CCR
74 pts. - TechArt GT street
72 pts. - Porsche 997 Turbo
70 pts. - Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano

the promise to offer a new dimension of driving has been kept. Pretiously the RT12 offers a lot of power, a nearly perfect handling and even some udnerstatement as onyl the real connaisseurs are able to differentiate the Rt12 from other Porsche.

if you ever feel the enormous boost when accelerating, you will ask the question: "Could the be more?" and your answer will be: "No!", the RT12 is state-of-the art and shows the physical limits.

the Rt12 is very traditional, a Porsche of the best kind

Just amazing numbers. For some reason it doesn't have the brute look I wish it would on the outside. It looks good, but just perhaps not what I think of when thinking Ruf.

As a daily driven track day car it has one option that stands out of the crowds of tuned Porsches, that roll cage is a beauty.

I don't like the rear, but I bet the version from their RGT would fit too, or if that would be too hardcore, maybe just leave it standard.

CORRECTION - Ruf Rt12 Nurburgring time is 7:35 NOT 7:25. Actually slower than a stock 997GT2 (7:33)!

Funny how AJ got that wrong. The 997 GT2 now has a time of 7:32 as well. I actually prefer the look of the GT2 anyway, but the RT12 is still a very cool car.

The F50 is a standard production car. As are the XJ220, F1, and EB110. Is there such a thing as a non-standard production car? I don't think so

I understand how scissors can beat paper, and I get how a rock can beat scissors, but there's no #$%#ing way paper can beat rock. Is paper supposed to magically wrap around rock and leave it immobile? Why the hell can't paper do this to scissors? Screw scissors, why can't paper do this to people? Why aren't sheets of college ruled notebook paper constantly suffocating students as they take notes in class? I'll tell you why, because paper can't beat anybody. A rock would tear that shit up in 2 seconds. When I play rock paper scissors, I always choose rock. Then when somebody claims to have beaten me with their paper I can punch them in the face with my already clenched fist and say, oh shit Im sorry, I thought paper would protect you, asshole.

Maybe I'm boring but I think it's one of the best looking 997's. I love the understated look with the brutal performance.

I'm drastically not as excited about it now.

Wait now, isn't the engine based on 996 generation...

edit. Ruf website states they use a new 3.8l unit, but wasn't this their mod from the 996 3.6 liter, not related to the Porsche 997 3.8 engine?
