Is who everyone thought he was
http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/tv/3120903/Stigs-identity-is-revealed.html
Pity the British legal system is so inept and allowed them to reveal his identity for monetary gain. The stig is clearly a Clarkson/Wilman creation, who is behind the mask only matters on the grounds of continuity, clearly Ben Collins ego has outgrown the stig helmet. He should consider himself lucky that he was payed £10,000 a week to drive when otherwise he would have been a washed up racer wanna be. If he had any foresight whatsoever, he could have profited off the mystery himself, doing driver coaching, people would flock to him in the belief he was the stig. Everyone already knew who he was, but denying it added an allure and always a little bit of doubt. I hope Togear sack his greedy arse and replace him with a proper racing driver. I think that 5th gear has been cancelled hasnt it? Maybe they could get jason plato.

What's so greedy about what he did? It was a ploy to get viewers to watch the show. That's the point.

James May, on hearing the ruling, told BBC London:
"Obviously I'm now going to have to take some legal action of my own, because I have been the Stig for the past seven years, and I don't know who this bloke is, who's mincing around in the High Court pretending it's him."

It's going to be easy for the Top Gear team to make fun of the incident, tell the audience it's all a lie and that the stig isn't human, and then test the next car with the stig (except with some new unknown person playing the stig). I don't see why it would foul up the show.

of course he did, he is getting payed by harper collins to write an autobiography. He is doing this purely because he gets payed 1/4 to 1/8th of the topgear presenters and thinks he is worth more.

Shut up you stupid fool. He did this for money, Topgear would not sue their own man in the high court looking for ratings. You are not a smart person in any way, shape or form.

I'd rather the BBC just ignore all this drama and keep using the him rather than getting someone else and invalidating all the lap times currently on the board. Not that they're even that important anyway.

love how you think a professional driver like this is some sort of hack.
remember, anyone but the current F1 champ is a terrible driver.

of course he did it for money. its not like he was the stig for free.
sucks if they have to start all over, but as been said before, there have been other drivers on the board already. Any professional race car driver should be able to get the cars within a few tenths of a second. Ultimately one car being slightly faster or slower than another isnt whats important; when we reference the lap board we really are just looking at the level the car playing is on, not the exact time.

Nobody is disputing the fact he should get paid for doing his job. He did get paid and quite well I might add. However, to enter an employment contract with the BBC, he signed a legally binding confidentiality agreement, stipulating that he must keep his identity as The Stig, a secret. The BBC have held up their end of the bargain, so why shouldn't he?
Consider that this is no normal job. It basically equates to driving expensive, high-performance cars around a track as quickly as possible without the pressure of being in a race. Then consider he's getting paid roughly $20,000 per episode to do this. Then finally, consider that any racing driver of his level in the world would jump at the chance to be The Stig. I'd definitely say there's a certain amount of greed involved.
At the end of the day, Top Gear is the most watched TV show in the world. I don't think they need to drag things like this through court to get ratings. Ben Collins would have known full well this matter would end up in court and in turn, give his book a large amount of publicity. Who in their right mind would be interested in reading a book written by a mid-level professional racing driver, had he not been The Stig at some point in time?
