Quote from Vajra Are you all not getting the big picture?! Okay, yes it is a Bentley... GREAT (sike), and it fast (217.5mph) woopty doo. Now on one of these forums I noticed someone making a false correction but I myself may be wrong. THIS IS A V16, W16 IS JUST THE LAYOUT. Now, Bentley should be ashamed of themselves on this one... the car has 623hp and even less torque than that. Does anyone see the problem with this picture? You should because its a freakin' V16!!! Bentley should be extracting way more horsepower from that engine and the torque is horrible, I'm pretty sure that that much torque and horsepower is only available in the top two gears which means nothing in a race or on the street. Furthermore this is not the first attempt at a V16 engine, CADILLAC built V16's at one time, they were the first and I believe only to do so until Bentley built this monstrosity. You all are praising this car like its the king of supercar's, oh and I forgot, it only goes 217.5 (yeah I know... only) If a V8 can go 254.7 you better tell me a V16 can do at least 270mph. Anyway Bentley would be gyping people on this one (I also forgot the average mile/gallon for a basic bentley is somethink like 5-6miles/gallon which is also horrible, and this is a true gas guzzler). Get off this cars jock, its just a luxury tempo on steroids.
the engine is a W16 composed of 4 VR6 for which VW (owner of Bentley)has retired 2 cylinders. The engine is naturally aspired. the 85% torque is available on EACH gear.the torque is reached at a precise RPM , it doesn't depend at all on the gear selection !!!!!!! the V8 you're refering to is a TWINTURBO engine !!!!!

The stats are wrong. This car is not going into production, because it is TOO FAST for Bentley to justify building and selling. Being a Bentley, the damn thing probably weighs two tonnes, and it can spin its wheels in third gear, this car would out perform just about anything in a straight line, but in my humble opinion the handling may be a little bit of a let down, not to say it can't handle however.
Incase you are wondering, Anschutz produce the worlds most accurate sporting rifles. Yes I have one, and yes I wish I could bring it with me to the forums.

Its a two seater V12 (a poor one at that) with 623hp and goes 217.5mph. Your telling me its not meant for racing, well in that case... the 1997 McLaren F1 and F1 LM aren't race cars, the 2002 Ferrari 575m isn't a race car, the Mercedes Benz CLK-GTR and Saleen S7R aren't race cars either! Your Right! No they are not race cars but they are very fast, very sporty cars that are meant to perform. These aren't your basic luxury sedans, sports sedans, sports coupes', or sports cars, these are performance cars. And this is the poorest performance car I've ever seen, Bentley just embarassed themselves. If they pride themselves with so much PERFECTION they should have perfected that engine before they even mentioned the existance of this vehicle to the press.

Well, handling in present form would be a let down, because it's merely a showcar, not built to be driven. Vajra, you need to calm down a bit. For starters, I'm a bit mystified as to how you can call an engine with 4 banks of 4 cylinders a V configuration. Second, it's a VW engine, so Bentley aren't responsible for developement of it. Third, this is the same engine as in the new Bugatti, except there it has 1001bhp (what, you complaining now?) with the help of 4 turbos. Fourthly, don't you think that 350 kph is a bit of a nice round number and, considering this is a showcar, someone hasn't just made an educated guess at how this LUXURY supercar would perform, given possible, nay fictional production spec. Mercedes' showcar version of the SLR was powered by the 5 litre V8 from the S-Class and weighed an unspecified amount that was enough to blunt the acceleration 0-60 to around 8 seconds! Hardly the 4.2 seconds they were claiming at the time. And, lastly, the last time I checked, Bentley were known for making very fast luxury GT cars, not out and out racers. You really think they'd pull a complete U-turn just because VW are taking over?

Who's the dipshit taht started this?
"W16 is just the configuration" Yeah. Well, "I6" is a configuration too. No it is not a V16, a V16 is two banks of 8 cylinders. This is four banks of 4 cylinders
the 8 litre V10 from the Viper gets 450hp. Yet this thing gets 600hp, and that's sad? Buddy, the 7.0L Saleen S7 gets only 600 or so in racing trim, because oF RESTRICTIONS.
This car was IN TESTING when it was cancelled, in favour of teh Bugatti concept, and its engine was put in the Bugatti.
That Bugatti, was originally powered by a 5.5L W18, made up of three banks of 6 cylinders, worth 450hp (??).
Listen up idiot. We have TWO 8 liter engines. One is a W16, the other a V8. They will BOTH HAVE COMPARABLE OUTPUTS. Diplacement is displacement.
Adding more cylinders makes the engine run smoother, for the most part. And THAT is why Bugatti was trying to make a W18. It would be smooth as glass.
Dear Santa I've been very good this year. All I want is an XJ220, a Dauer 962, a Zonda C12S, an S7, a CC, and an F1 LM. Oh yeah, and a 1957 Mercedes 300SL Gullwing.

you are quite foolish engine configuration has nothing to do with speed. secondly i think it looks quite good. thirdly you know that most race cars have low torque high rpm

He may think he's being serious, but he's fairly mistaken. Bentley's will return double figure mpg's, maybe even as high as 16 or so if you're careful. But then again: 1) That's better than any American muscle car you'd care to mention; and 2) If you can afford a Bentley, you're not exactly worried by fuel costs.

do you know that V is a format just as W is? And that V8 means that the cylinders are arranged in a V and that in a W16 the cylinders are arranged in a W? Did you know that? It is a W16! And it is among the first! Someone did not falsely correct you... You falsely corrected the correct person who corrected you

how many cylinders a car has, has a lot to do with output, both of torque, and hp. The most efficient are the one's that have the right amount of cylinders combined with the right about displacement (look at some BMW's for this, especially the M3, that's a good example). YES, this IS a W16 engine, but no it's not un-efficient for "only" putting out over 600 hp. If you want to see an un-efficient engine look at the Buggatti's engine. I know these two are a lot the same, but somebody really screwed up when the put a W16 engine + 4 turbo's, and only got 1000 hp....everybody thinks this is a lot of hp, but it's not when you realize how much it really could be making. Anyways, just wanted to put my "two cents" in.

I am a Bentley fan and this one is a different aspect of the bentley program. If they had this kind of money for R&D years ago, they would made something like this in the 90's. The company always had to make due with a limited budget and resorted to revamping old models to drum-up new sales. Now with a new parent company,(VW)they come out with this monster engine. I really prefer the arnage t engine; you know, low-end torque that beats any dodge heavy-duty diesel truck off the showroom floor. just think, you could put a tow hitch on the arnage and tow your horse trailer from the track and not break a sweat! 650ft/lb at 2,000 rpm is just heaven.

Yeah, Bently should be sooo ashamed they made a great car that outdoes most of the cars on this site in most of the catagories that are discussed in these forums. Clearly...Bently are inferior.

This is my first time in the forums, but i would like to comment on the Bentley Hunadieres. Slick body nice shoes design is tight great curves aggressive look overall great design on car, All the qualities Bentley cars have. "Luxurious sports car with a facade" I think the soft engine fits well with the car, If you want it to be a monster on the road, tune it up. Although with such a nice car as this, you must get the full package that lives up to the name.
