I think 199 mph is a figure that deserves confirmation......

The 1954-55 Ferrari 121 LM was good for 180+mph on the Mulsanne with just 330hp from its 4.4-litre Straight-6. That car was probably similar in weight to the Maserati, but had a much less aerodynamic shape. Also, the 121 LM was designed with the lower speed circuits in mind, so it would not have been as optimized for top-end speed.
The 400hp figure on the Maserati is for road trim. The competition-tuned 4.5-litre V8 gave 430-450hp, and Chassis #4508 with the enlarged 5.7-litre V8 gave 526hp.

if this was legally a road car, wouldn't that make this the fastest road car at the time? 199mph does seem suspiciously high. as you probably know the 1962 gto, often hailed as the greatest ferrari, only did 174 mph (although admittedly with only 303bhp). if this vehicle could acheive a 199mph top speed, why isn't it more famous and publicized?
