This Daimler and the Daimler of Daimler-Chrysler are very different car companies. The SP250 was made by Daimler Motor Company Ltd. A diffent, German company, known as 'Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft' (at least when it was first formed, never kept up on the history of it). The Daimler of both companies does come from the last name of the same guy.

This car was made in England. Daimler Motor was bought out by Jaguar around 1965ish. You can still get a Jaguar made with Daimler tags. Just will cost you a little extra :P

Briefly - the original car maker named Daimler was formed in Germany by Gotlieb Daimler. Initially the cars were called Daimler, but around the turn of the 20th century, the company adopted the brand name Mercedes. The company that made Mercedes was still called Daimler.

In the 1920s, Daimler merged with Benz. The company name became Daimler-Benz. The brand name for it's cars became Mercedes-Benz.

In the 1990s, Daimler-Benz merged with (some say took over) Chrysler. The company name became DaimlerChrysler.

The British Daimler company was originally set up to build cars based on German Daimlers. It soon began building cars of its own design. Eventually Daimler in the UK were taken over by Jaguar and so the name is now owned by Ford.

The third major car maker named Daimler was Austro-Daimler in Austria. Again it was orginally set up to build cars based on German Daimlers. It later merged with Steyr and Puch to form Steyr-Daimler-Puch.
