Well, you do realize that it was an AUCTION, right? Not like someone strolled into a Ferrari dealership and decided to buy the 330 on the showroom floor. I doubt there are many of these in existence, as there weren't many made to start with. It's basically a collectors item.

Read the story below the pictures and you will see what this car has accomplished in racing. And some car collectors with a higher net worth than everyone on this site combined will pay anything to have one. By the way I was thinking that a ferrari gto sells for still more going for something like 8 million.
I judge a car based on what's under the hood, not what badge it wears.

Cause its a collectors item.
Racing your Honda Civic is like being in the special olympics, even if you win, you're still retarded.

Well the thing about auctions is that the price paid may not be what the car is worth, it's whatever ego driven maniacs are willing to pay to keep their pride in tact. A 62 250 GTO went at auction for around 12 million dollars a few years back. I'm not sure if it still stands but that was the highest reported price ever paid for a car. Anyways, a few years later it went for about 4 million. That is a huge discrepency, no matter how much money you can burn. Why is this so expensive? It is so expensive because it is a vintage Ferrari with a storied racing history and you are not owning just a car, you are owning a legend.

That car was probably sold for $12 million during the boom of classic sports car sales around 1990 (following Enzo Ferrari's death). The market then busted which explains the huge drop in price. The exceptionally high price, I'm sure, was because of racing history.

Boy, you gotta be braindead. Its an almost unique car. It was an auction. That car alone has a better race history then ford (minus a few fluke years in the 60s when Ferrari couldnt race due to Italian law). And this isnt a lot for a Ferrari. 13.9 is a lot. Check out the 64 250 gto.
when i cup my dad's balls, i dream that my gay blue corolla station wagon was a friggin ferrari! =*(

Actually the highest price paid for a car was 50 million for the first Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost, but that was only after it won many races. Just thought I'd clear that up.

Because there are a lot of stupid f**ks in this world who have a ludicrous amount of money, an even larger quantity of vanity, and absolutely no conscience to speak of, so they spend their money on essentially useless items simply for the purpose of being able to say, "I own one" Without a single care for number of lives that could have been saved had the money been spent elsewhere. That's all there is to it. I don't care if this thing is the only Ferrarri in existance and it's one every god damned Le Mans since the Egyptians built the pyramids, spending that much money on a car is morally and ethically wrong no matter which way you can possibly imagine looking at it.
Ye who look upon the Murcielago, kneel . . .

To clarify something, the Silver Ghost was not bought for $50 million. It's estimated current worth is at $50 million. The owner has had it in his collection for decades.
To bowdown2diablo: I am not angry at what you said but I am a little confused. You cannot justify the purchase of a racing legend for 12 million (maybe the money could be better spent), but then why does your name support Lamborghini and you state a quote about the Murcielago? Lamborghini's are great, but do you really need one to survive? Couldn't that $250,000 dropped on a brand new Murc go to some other wordly cause? If you are so concerned about moral issues, shouldn't your name read bowdown2hyundai or better yet bowdown2huffybikes?

Diablo, Two words for you: "sour grapes." You obviously have a frustration and angst issue that needs to be addressed. This car was bought and will most likely be sold at profit in a couple years. At least that is what has happened with every other collector car this guy has bought in the past 7 years. You think the owner has some huge debt to society and that he should not spend money on thigs like this. This car is a piece of history that is being kept alive. I hope you realize how socialist your views are.
This guy having a lot more money than you doesnt preclude you from helping society. Why don't you tell everyone what you do with your money to help society? And if in fact you do your part to help society, then more power to you. You have never met Jim Spiro, and have no clue as to what kind of person he is. Funny how you covet lamborghinis(which are very expensive), but hate the idea that someone else can afford to buy a car that not only provides enjoyment, but is a very good investment as well. See the contradiction?? It is the people who don't think before they speak that really get me. I hope you don't think that people like Jim Spiro owe you something. But if so, move to France

Hypocrite..you advocate not spending the amount of money it requires to drive classics such as this Ferrari, yet you covet Lamborghinis, which are pricey as well...so which side of the safety fence are you really on here? I would much rather have this Ferrari than a Lambo, anyway...

I don't think he genuinley covet Lamborghini's. Thats probably a joke. Even still ther is a MASSIVE diference in the cost anew Murcialago and this. About $6,250,000 difference so stop being so harsh. Anyway I've just watched a documentary on the sale of this car and it was bought by an American who actaully drives it to work some days. He says "whats the point of owning a car if you're not going to use it". Which is fair enough, as long as an old lady dosn't run a red and T-bone him in it.
