This had an american look (not euro like '53-'56 vette), more HP.
Was smoking vettes.... But accprding to car & driver...Instead of putting vette out of production, this made GM so angry that they decide to mantain vette production...

I would say it was a 'Vette savior, since the Thunderbird pushed GM to make the 'Vette better and by '57 (the last year for the two-seat T-Bird) the Corvette had a V8 (tho didn't they put a V8 in the '55 Vette too?) and fuel injection, and was a hell of a lot better...but it was all over in '58 since the T-Bird went to 4 seats, and the Corvette became America's only true sports car.
