It is the company's second experimental car in 24 months, following 100EX, which was seen at Geneva in 2004 and marked the company's Centenary. The Phantom VI introduced in 1968 was similar to the Phantom V it replaced, but with a larger V8 engine. The transmission was changed to a three speed unit and hydraulically powered steering and brakes were fitted.

Produced from 1929 to 1935, the Phantom II was a large improvement over the previous Phantom I. Both cars shared much the same chassis design with the Phantom II having a lower ride height and improved semi-elliptic springs. The large Inline-6 powerplant featured an aluminum head and a twin ignition system which was also new on Phantom II cars.

Only five Skiff bodies were ever applied to the legendary Silver Ghost chassis. Henri Labourdette was responsible for the coachwork which embodied rich mahogany affixed to an ash framework.
