Subaru has finally released detailed pictures of its range-topping new Impreza WRX STI which debuts at the 40th Tokyo Motor Show at the end of October.

Following the Legacy RS and its single victory, the Impreza made its competition debut at rally Finland in 1993. Subaru opted to call their competition model the 555 since their key sponsor was State Express 555 who manufactured cigarettes, but were forbidden to advertise under FIA guidelines.

21 November 2006 - Subaru UK has announced a new special edition Impreza WRX STI in memory of rally hero Richard Burns who died in November last year of cancer.

The spec C is Subaru's homologation model which features slight improvements over the standard spec model for racing in the Production World Rally (PWRC) and Group N rally. A minimum number of 1000 cars were needed to satisfy the requirements, so Subaru Technical Institute offered them to the Japanese market.

The RA was a special package available through Suburu's Technical International (STi) that was only produced in limited quantities for the Japanese market. It was a fully equipped version of the 2.0 liter WRX STi spec C and took advantage of the stripped out spec C car, but with luxuries like Auto AC and electric folding mirrors. Their EJ20 enignes were finely tuned to produce to 280 bhp thanks ...

Only produced in limited quantities for the Japanese market, the Type RA-R is a fully featured version of the 2.0 liter WRX STi spec C. It offers customers in Japan a better version of the WRX and contributes to the spec C's homlogation requirements.

The S04 follows the S202, and S203, as a special edition Impreza limited to 600 examples. Each costs five million yen and are built specifically for the Japanese market. (approx $40,000 USD)

Subaru has introduced a restyled and re-powered Impreza model line for 2006, also adding three new WRX models, more safety features, and a revised Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system in the 300-horsepower WRX STI.

Subaru has unveiled a special edition Impreza WRX STi to celebrate Petter Solberg winning the Driver's Title in the 2003 World Rally Championship. On sale in the spring and limited to 500 units, the WR1, as it will be called, will feature a power upgrade to around 320 HP plus a host of technical and visual upgrades.

Subaru's strikingly restyled Impreza made its world debut at the Paris Motor Show on 26 September, 2003. The B4 Blitzen is a new sportier version of the highly popular Legacy Blitzen. The exterior, with its emphasis on functionalism, is the result of a joint design effort by Subaru and Porsche Design. It has a clean body surface devoid of excess lines. The resultant smooth body design provides the Legacy Blitzen with a stronger presence than the previous model.

The STi has been a popular high performance road car in the Japanese domestic market since January 1994. This was when the first Impreza STi, with its refined engine & suspension, was launched by Subaru Tecnica International.

Not long after Subuaru released the second-generation 'GD' Impreza the WRX STi version was made. Along with the rest of the line, it had 120% more torsional stiffness and the EJ207 Boxer-6 engine. The new style included round headlights which was reffed to as the 'bugeye' look.
