1936 Maserati 6CM

Maserati built the Maserati 6CM race car for the Voiturette racing series. It is a single-seater car produced from 1936 to 1940.

The car is based on the Maserati 4CM frame, with front suspension from the Maserati V8RI.  On 276 CMs were built and it had a successful racing career. Originally it was built for privateers who wanted to go racing, pretty typical for the times.

Power came from an inline 6 with two overhead valves per cylinder and a Roots-type supercharger and a Weber carburetor, good for 155hp at 6,200rpm (output by 1939 was increased to 175 bhp).

The 6CM was a successful car in the racing world. It held victories in Europe, which was a powerhouse at the time for grand prix-style racing. Maserati also won with the 6CM at Modena in three separate races in the late 1930s.
