IN 1997 DaimlerChrysler improved the Viper in a number of key areas, enough to distinguish it as the second generation.

The car was deigned with a new chassis, lighter engine and improved amenities.

The Phase II SR cars were also imported into Europe under the Chrysler banner. These were converted by Oreca into GT1 and GT2 racecars known as the Chrysler Viper GTS-R.
