2008 Maserati GranTurismo

2008 Maserati GranTurismo

February 20th, 2007 – To be released at the Geneva Auto Show, the GranTurismo is set to replace Maserati’s aging Coupe/Spyder and will take their theme to new visual extreme.

Most of the car’s underpinnings come straight from the Quattroporte and use the same suspension. Power comes from the same 405 HP hp 4.2-liter V8 found in the Quattroporte and offers a remarkable weight distribution of 49/51.

The GranTurismo is only fitted with automatic ZF gearbox that works in conjunction with the adaptive control system to adjust the gear-shifting mode.

Autoblog said ”looking less like a Buick than the Quattroporte sketches of the new Maserati Coupe show an aggressive two-door with significant ‘coke bottle’ cues.” This new look is the work of well-regarded Jason Castriota at Pininfarina, the same firm that styled the Quattroporte five years ago. Jason’s egg-crate grill brings back memories of Maseratis past, particularly the A6GCS Pininfarina, probably the prettiest Maserati ever made.

Fit and refinement should be top quality and we can only hope this Coupe is built in all aluminum like it’s Ferrari 599 big brother.

A Spyder version is expected to debut sometime in 2008.
