1962 Ferrari 250 GTE 2 Plus 2
The 250 GTE is one of the first Ferraris that could comfortably seat four people. Having said this the GTE is based more on grand touring over competition. All the usual Ferrari qualities are apparent but this car is somewhat heavier and slower than the 250 SWB Berlinetta.
To accomidate two additional seats, Ferrari had to move the engine and mechanicals 12 inches forward and extend the bodywork 12 inches compared to the previous 250. The wheelbase remained the same, but the addional mass added 170 lbs to the car.
As for performance, most journalists in the 60s had little complaints. The car handled in a neutral fashion and speeds of 130 mph could be attained with little trouble.
In 1963 the 250 GTE was replaced by the 330 Amercia which remained much the same except a four-liter V12.
