Ferrari reveals the F12berlinetta

2013 Ferrrari F12berlinetta

Today Ferrari are revealing the F12berlinetta and they are calling it the fastest Ferrari ever built.

The new Ferrari flagship immediately replaces the 599 with upgrades to every system in the car. Most notable is the controversial styling that looks like a grown up Ferrari FF including its rear hatch.

The F12 will be revealed to the world at the upcoming Geneva International Motor Show.

The Squire 1500

1937 Squire 1½-Liter Drophead Coupe

In just over a week Bill Noon will be presenting this Squire 1500 Corsica Drophead Coupé at RM Auction's upcoming Amelia Island sale. RM will set the precedent as none of the Squires have gone to auction in recent time.

A cosmetic facelift from a 1990s restoration has made this example the most striking of the nine surviving Squires. We have photographs of the Corsica Drop Head Coupe and four other examples in our profile feature.

Built to a high level of engineering and craftsmanship, the Squires rivaled the best French designs of the period as well as cars like the Bugatti Type 55 and Alfa Romeo 8C 2300.

Concepts headed to Geneva

2012 Bertone Nuccio

The Nuccio concept is Bertone's feature car for the upcoming Geneva Motor Show. It's built in honor of Nuccio Bertone who took over the design firm in 1950.

The Nuccio seems to borrow some design traits from the Alfa Romeo Pandion. One of the newest Bertone cars in the Supercars.net database is the Bertone-Stanguellini 1100 Berlinetta, a prototype of the 1100/103 TV.

IED are also anouncing the Cisitalia 202 E, a concept car made in homage to the classic Cisitalia of the 1940s and 1950s.

Veyron Super Sport goes Topless

Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse

Today Bugatti are announcing the Vitesse, a roadster version of the Bugatti Super Sport with the Grand Sport's removable roof.

Although no performance figures have been released, this is probably the fastest roadster in the world. It joins ranks with the CLK GTR Roadster, Zonda F Roadster, Reventón Roadster and the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Stirling Moss.

The public will get their first view of the Grand Sport Vitesse in person during the Geneva Motor Show on March 8th.

SL 63 AMG Launched

2012 Mercedes-Benz SL 63 AMG 2012 Mercedes-Benz SL 63 AMG

Today Mercedes-Benz revealed their SL 63 AMG on the sixth-generation SL platform.

Despite retaining the '63' name, Mercedes has fit a 5.5-litre engine known as the M157. This produces over 500 bhp and mates up to the new MCT 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Compared to the outgoing 2008 SL 63 AMG, the new model has roughly the same power in much lighter and more efficient package. Mercedes say the new model will surface in May of this year.

Maserati GranTurismo Sport

The new Maserati GranTurismo Sport

Today Maserati revealed the GranTurismo Sport for the upcoming Geneva Motor Show.

Building on the GranTurismo S, the new Sport has a revised front end that refines the MC Stradale theme.

Other enhancements include new seats, a 460 bhp engine, a new steering wheel and smoked rear taillights.

On February 29th Ferrari will reveal their new flagship V12 supercar. It will be a replacement to the 599 and will be first publically shown at the Geneva Motor Show.

Plus 8 from Morgan

2012 Morgan Plus 8

After an eight year absence, Morgan has reintroduced the Plus 8 back into their lineup with the BMW N62B48 V8.

Typically, this engine was fitted in the BMW 760 and 650i, so it's more than capable for the 1150 kg (2536 lbs) Morgan.

The new model is similar in specification to the Morgan Aero Supersports and 2012 Morgan Aero Coupe, but with classic Morgan design cues.

One of the more interesting Morgans to sell in recent time is this Dellow Roadster which Gooding & Company sold for $79,750 USD.

3rd Generation M6 Lands

2013 BMW M6 Cabriolet

In preparation for the upcoming Geneva Motor Show, BMW are releasing images and details of the 3rd-generation BMW M6.

Not surprisingly, the new M6 uses the same S63 Twin Turbo V8 from the M5 in a Coupé or Cabriolet platform. This unit has some 150 more bhp than the standard 650i. To go along with the package, BMW are including an agressive body kit, 19-inch wheels, a dual-clutch transmission and electronic differential.

BMW will release the Coupé version at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show while the Cabriolet (Convertible in the states) will be released at the New York Auto Show.

The New Aston Martin V12 Zagato

2012 Aston Martin V12 Vantage Zagato

Today Aston Martin revealed details of the updated V12 Vantage Zagato that will go into production later this year.

The designers at Aston Martin have refined Zagato's car with the fit and finish of the One-77. This includes a completely new interior while the exterior remains nearly identical to the prototypes.

Aston will reveal their upcoming model at the Geneva Motor Show in March. They say the car is a tribute to the original DB4 GT Zagato.

Chicago in Pictures

2013 Shelby GT500 Convertible

Today, the Chicago Auto Show's opening was highlighted by Ford's reveal of the 2013 Shelby GT500 Convertible. It follows SVT's 20th anniversary which presented the SVT Mustang Cobra at the same show in 1992.

Nissan used the occasion to launch a facelifted 370Z. The new front end has been cleaned up which should have happened in 2009.

Other releases included the Hyundai Elantra, Kia Track’ster Concept, 2013 Acura ILX and 2013 GMC Acadia. These can be found in our feature gallery of the show.

Artcurial à Rétromobile

€4,507,104 California Spyder

Last weekend Artcurial had an exceptional sale at Rétromobile that fetched €4,507,104 for this Ferrari California. Aided by an original factory hardtop and ownership by French film director Roger Vadim, Artcurial set the world record for a steel-bodied LWB California Spyder at auction.

We were happy to see the original 1913 Delaunay-Belleville O6 trade hands for €471,760. This undoubtedly sets a precedent for the model and future Delaunay-Belleville sales.

In total, Artcurial finished their day with over €14 million in sales which is the new record for an automobile auction in France. Our gallery of the events by Dirk de Jager includes all the important lots and data.

2012 Rétromobile

1954 Ferrari 250 Monza 0466

The most talked about car from this year's Rétromobile is this Ferrari 250 Monza, chassis 0466. Its colorful history includes the 1956 Mille Miglia and subsequent use in Brazil. After a little panel work, this is roughly how it appeared after being discovered in Uruguay.

Another show stopper is the Mullin Museum's stand which has 10 of the most desirable French cars. It's hard to beat a display that includes an original Bugatti Atlantic, the Million-Franc Delahaye and Delahaye's 1938 Paris Motor Show star.

Our photographer Dirk de Jager visited Rétromobile on a busy Thursday for our feature gallery. He said it was one of the best Rétromobiles of recent time.

Rétromobile Preview

1913 Delaunay-Belleville O6

The classic car world is focused on Rétromobile today as it opens its doors this morning in Paris.

Highlighting the official Artcurial auction is this Delaunay-Belleville O6 which is one of two documented survivors. Stored since 1939 and retained in the same family since new, this is the first sale of this fabulous machine.

Not too far away from Retromobile, Bonhams is staging their flagship February sale and their cover car is this 1928 Amilcar C6 Voiturette which has an estimate of €460,000 - 540,000.

Many supercars have returned home to France courtesy of the Mullin Musuem which brought several of their French masterpieces to Rétromobile. For a look at their collection from August we recommend our gallery.
