Jet Center Party
One of the opening events of the Monterey week is Gordon McCall's Motorworks Revival. This intimate party brings together a selection of cars that preview the week ahead. With many of the top manufacturer's onboard, the Revival is great way to see most of the currently available luxury and sports cars alongside a selection of historic cars.
Adding further credentials to McCall's event this year was the North American debut of several cars such as the Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4, Pagani Huayra and the Aston Martin V12 Vantage Zagato. The Hennessey Venom GT, Ferrari F50 GT and Pagani Zonda R were also a welcome sight.
We paid special attention to the Lotus Evora GTE which was unveiled worldwide as the most radical Evora yet. Notable classic cars included a 1982 March 82G-01 Prototype, an unrestored Cheetah GT, Max Balchowsky's Ol' Yaller Mk.II and Adam Carolla's BRE Datsun 2000.
Today we can feature the Revival with photography from both Richard Owen and Tristan de Carro.
2011 Goodwood Revival
After considerable effort we can now present our finished version of the 2011 Goodwood Revival. Adding to the main TT race previously mentioned, we now have 6 more races, 2 special parades and an impressions section.
As a tribute to Tribute to Juan Manuel Fangio, several of his old race cars were on parade including cars from the Museo Fangio in Balcarce, Buenos Aires, Argentina. A pair of Ferrari 860 Monzas and a pair of Ferrari 290 MMs was a nice spot as well.
Another less-appreciated, but better fielded parade was reserved for 100 years of Ford in Europe. Many of the British-built Ford sedans, coupes and cabriolets were on hand as well as Fordson's industrial trucks. In stark contrast was the Ford F3L and Ford GT40s which made everything else look pedestrian.
Today we can feature the excellent photgraphy of Dirk de Jager for the Revival. Unfortunately he could not make the Sussex Trophy so if anyone has pictures of that race we would love to hear from you..
Goodwood's TT
Today we can present the Royal Automobile Club TT Celebration from yesterday's Goodwood Revival. Despite rain 1/2 way through the 45 minute race, Tom Kristensen and Kenny Brack managed to put their Cobra Daytona's power down, enough win the race outright.
All manners of 1960-1964 GT cars were present including the debut of Lawrence Auriana's ex-Rosso Bianco Maserati Tipo 151/1. Also on hand were both ex-Le Mans Shelby Cobra Hardtops which haven't been photographed together in quite some time.
Our gallery of Goodwood comes from Dirk de Jager. Over the week will be be adding all the sports car classes to complement the RAC TT Celebration.
Peugeot Wins Silverstone Enduro
Last weekend's Autosport 6 Hours of Silverstone was the 5th round of the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup and 4th round of the Le Mans Series. The dual-nature of the race meant both Peugeot and Audi were present and the #7 Peugeot of Anthony Davidson, Sébastien Bourdais and Simon Pagenaud placed first overall.
Much of the race was decided by driver errors. Three of the four top factory cars made contact with slower cars and handed the victory to Peugeot. The fastest GT car was the AF Corse Ferrari F458 Italia which secured the Le Mans series championship for the team.
Today we can present a gallery of Silverstone courtesy of Michael Van De Velde. Many cars are now on their way to Mid America for the penultimate round of the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup on October 1st.
IAA 2011 Gallery
After day two of Frankfurt's Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung, we can present a comprehensive gallery of the sports, concept and super cars released.
Germany's big three, Mercedes-Benz/Daimler, the BMW Group and the VW Group each had a tremendous presence in Frankfurt. Merc setup the largest display for their press conference in the Frankfurt Messe. The VW Group chose to preview their cars a night before show then relaunched each on their respective stands the following day.
Of all the cars launched, the sixth generation Porsche 911 is probably the most important. A reformed Lotus brought out their next generation Exige and Elise which is much more palatable than the five oversize concepts released at Geneva. Ford revealed the Focus ST as a global product and BMW brought out their new electronic I8 and I3 series.
Our gallery features all these cars from Frankfurt across two pages. If you have any more images to contribute, please let us know.
IAA DAY 1
With the first day of Frankfurt's IAA show underway, we have a few new surprises that didn't leak before now. Some of the most impressive of these are the Mercedes-Benz C-Coupé DTM AMG and Audi A5 DTM R17 which will rival BMW in the 2012 DTM Championship.
Mercedes-Benz also finally dropped official information on the F125 concept which is actually named ''F 125!''.
During yesterday's VW preview night the Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale was revealed alongside the 2012 Audi RS5 Coupé, numerous other Audis, the Bentley GTC and the Veyron ‘L'Or Blanc’. With over 10 new models on display, Audi have the most debuts to show the Frankfurt crowds.
Other new surprises of the day included the Volvo Concept You, Seat IBL and Volkswagen Beetle R Concept.
IAA Prevew #2
Another week means another batch of releases for the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show which opens tomorrow. At the top of the list is this Super Trofeo Stradale which will likely become the ultimate Gallardo until its outright replacement. Standing somewhere in between the LP570-4 Superleggera and the Super Trofeo cars, this edition will be produced in only 150 examples and it will be released at VW's preview night later today.
Mercedes-Benz has leaked images of their upcoming F125 concept car for Frankfurt while more official details are availble on the Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG.
Some other interesting releases include the TechArt's final creation on the 997 Porsche called the TechArt GTStreet RS and Aston Martin's DBS Carbon Edition. Ford are also launching the Ford Focus ST as a global product and have a wagon as well as race-ready ST-R to show.
New concepts include the 2011 KIA GT, Fisker Surf and Jaguar C-X16. The IAA opens its doors tomorrow Tuesday, September 13th.
Concorso Italiano 2011
The largest show of the Monterey Week was Concorso Italiano. Accommodating everything Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Ferrari, Lamborghini and DeTomaso, the Concorso had almost every production car present.
This year the best spot was reserved for barn finds and the absolute highlight was an ex-Mille Miglia, ex-Turin Motor Show Fiat 8V in unrestored condition. Not far away was Tom Shaugnessey's 275 GTB Alloy which sold later in the week for $1,540,000 USD at Gooding & Company.
Our gallery features some of the many highlights of Concorso. We were happy to see two Detomaso Vallelungas, the sole Lancia Flaminia 3C, a Ferrari F50GT and the Best of Show winning Bertone-Stanguellini 1100.
Uniques In Italy
The second annual Uniques Special Ones show was held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Firenze, Italy over the weekend. The event focused on one-ofs like the 250 Zagato which won Best of Show.
Uniques was notable for the public debut of the Lamborghini Canto which has been sitting the Lamborghini Museum for some time. It was part of a large Zagato display which brought out many modern and historic Zagatos.
With only 80 cars in and around the Palazzo della Gherardesca, the MAC Group (which also hosts the modern Mille Miglia) put on an impressive show. Most of the cars can be found in our feature gallery.
We have also been hard at work on our Pebble Beach Gallery which now numbers above 1300 1400 pictures and benefits from the photography of Tristan de Carro.
Frankfurt Preview
In preparation for Frankfurt's Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung, many manufacturers are releasing info on new sports and concept cars. One of the most prominent of these is the sixth generation Porsche 911 which features a 7-speed manual for the first time.
Audi have also redesigned their entire performance range by using smaller, more powerful engines. One of the centerpieces of this shift is the 4.0-liter TSFI V8 which can produce up to 520 bhp. It will be installed in the Audi S8, Audi S7 Sportback and Audi S6. The Volkswagen Group will also being showing the drop-top version of the Bentley Continental called the GTC.
At the forefront of the releases is the Ferrari 458 Spider, but we are similarly excited to see the Peugeot HX1 which looks completely bespoke and ahead of its time. Similarly Ford will launch the Evos Concept which uses huge gullwing doors.
