The three model variants in the 911 lineup stayed the same in 1972/73 with the entry level T, the midrange E and the top of the line S making up the portfolio. Once again Porsche upped engine size and power across the board. The engine was a 2.4 liter unit (it was actually closer to 2.3L in actual displacement) that produced 130 hp in Europe and 140 hp in the United States in the base model T. The 911 E goes 165 hp while the 911 S got 190 hp.
With the power and torque increases, the 2.4 L cars also got a newer, stronger transmission and got rid of the dog-leg box. A number of other changes were made to improve the handling of the 911 and to try to tame what were scary dynamics that gave the 911 its widow maker reputation.
