The Best of McLaren?
The new McLaren 765LT is a wild machine. Recently, the company allowed a slew of journalists to test out the car at the racetrack and it became clear pretty quickly just how impressive the new car really is. However, before we jump straight into some videos, let’s talk numbers.
The supercar has 755 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque coming from a 4.0-liter twin-turbo DOHC 32-valve V8 engine. That mill is connected to a seven-speed twin-clutch transmission and there’s a curb weight of roughly 3,000 pounds. The 765LT is a car unlike most others.
But the true story of the 765LT isn’t really in the numbers. It’s in what McLaren has managed to squeeze into the car that can’t be quantified in horsepower and torque and weights and other measures. This car has a soul all its own as the following five presenters figured out.
The consensus is clear, this new Long Tail from McLaren is a fantastic machine. It’s lighter, sharper, and the best of McLaren. If you were waiting to pull the trigger on a McLaren supercar, then this might be the vehicle you’ve been waiting for.
The car appears to be exceptionally well-balanced. It can do the lap time very clean around the track driving, but when you want to, you can also go full hooligan. The car will slip about very easily and according to the various reports is an easily controllable car. It takes what McLaren got right with the 600LT and the 720S and adds to it. The 765LT appears to be the McLaren to get right now.
