The company was established almost eight decades ago, in 1948, by Colin Chapman, an English designer, inventor and builder. Lotus has ridden several waves of financial and other problems over the years with past owners, including General Motors and Proton. Geely Auto Group, a Chinese automobile company, currently owns Lotus. Lotus, a name synonymous with lightweight sports cars and exhilarating driving experiences, is undergoing a dramatic transformation. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px\">The model lineup has traditionally been relatively small. In 2021, Lotus only had the&nbsp;Evora,&nbsp;Exige&nbsp;and&nbsp;Elise&nbsp;sports cars in its model portfolio and now in 2025 none of those models exist, Lotus pinning its future on a bunch of totally new models. First up was the all-electric Evija hypercar, a multi-million dollar extreme performance machine. An all-electric Lotus is something we could have never predicted.
