The American historic racing community was shocked to learn of the untimely death of racer and car preparer Charlie Gibson on February 4th. Police reports indicate that Gibson was disconnecting a tractor-trailer rig when the tractor rolled backwards, killing Gibson.<\/p>\n
Gibson started racing a Sprite in 1959, but eventually graduated to a Lotus 23 that carried him to the 1967 SCCA G-Modified championship. Gibson went on to race a variety of cars, including Formula Atlantics and a McLaren Can-Am.<\/p>\n
Born in New York, Gibson attended Williams College and later earned an MS and MBA in Science and Engineering from Harvard. Later in life, Gibson and his partner Dave Handy formed SascoSports, a race preparation business based near Virginia International Racecway.
