First held on November 14, 1896, the run was originally organized as a celebration to commemorate the passing into British law of the Loc\u00adomotives on the Highway Act, which raised the speed limit for \u201clight locomotives\u201d from 4 mph to 14 mph and abolished the need for vehicles to be preceded by a man on foot carrying a red flag! Held every November since, the London to Brighton has proved to be an annual right of passage for lovers of veteran cars from around the world.
