April 20th, 2007, Monaco – At the 2007 Top Marques Monaco Show, Castagna from Milan are displaying four lavishly appointed Mini Coopers and a sole Aznom supercar that’s in stark contrast. It’s a bespoke and rebodied Corvette Z06 that benefits from the Castagna’s refinement and attention to detail.<\/span><\/p>\n

From the outside, the exposed carbon fiber emphasizes a new theme for Castagna: performance. Using the Corvette chassis as a base makes all performance engineering easy as it can largely be upgraded through other after market venues.<\/p>\n

Upon first glance, the Castagna reminds us of the original 1953 Corvette with its modern interpretation of the egg-crate grille and other traditional features. However, the lines of the car are thoroughly modern and more aggressive than any production model.<\/p>\n

At the front are two fully extended front lights and the rear end gets the same treatment with an LED array. The cabin has an Italian fastback profile but suffers from no rearward visibility. A small wing is fixed to the roof which raises during cornering and braking. At the rear is a clever splitter that integrates some of the rear lights and four exhaust tips.<\/p>\n

Other details include custom 5-spoke wheels that sit in 20 inch Pirelli PZero tyres. They hide a big brake system with 14 inch (356 mm) brakes upfront.<\/p>\n

The Corvette’s Z06 V8 engine has been tweaked to produce 750 bhp and is fitted with a dry sump lubrication system. With traction control, the RWD coupe reaches 0-100 kph in around 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 350 kph.<\/p>\n

Castagna was founded 1849 by Carlo Castagna. It reached the peak of its glory days between 1920 and 1930 producing custom-built bodies assembled on some of the best chassis in the world. So exclusive were these bodies, that they won coveted awards at the Concours D’Elegance and the era’s most prestigious shows. The name made a comeback in 1996 when Gioacchino Acampora relaunched the brand with a Alfa 75 concept car at the Geneva Salon. Since then, a range of Mini Cooper accessories and upgrades have been the company’s mainstay, but now the the Aznom secures them into supercar territory.<\/p>\n
