1961 Chaparral 1<\/h1>\n

In 1961 Jim Hall worked closely with Troutman and Barnes as well as Chevrolet to develop his first all-American racecar. The result was a highly-potent car that could challenge the Maserati and Listers which Hall previously sold at his dealership in Dallas, Texas.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Chaparral 1 was largely built by Troutman and Barnes in Culver City, California with a lightweight aluminum body designed by Chuck Pelly.<\/p>\n

Like the Scarab’s which Troutman and Barnes built, the Chaparral featured a fully-adjustable suspension, but took the theme a step further with Girling four-wheel disc brakes and a fully-independent rear suspension.<\/p>\n

Five examples of the Chaparral 1 were produced and ran some of the top tier events in Southern car racing such as the 12 Hours of Sebring, Riverside Grand Prix and Nassau.<\/p>\n
