2009 BMW M3 GT4<\/h1>\n

Designed to compete in the FIA GT’s GT4 class, this M3 is slightly upgraded to survive the rigors of on track racing. BMW plans to sell the car to potential customers for different racing championships all over the world.<\/span><\/p>\n

The GT4’s body is prepared at BMW’s Regensburg plant complete with FIA-spec roll cage and shipped to Munich for final assembly along side other projects like the GT2 ALMS and the E90 WTCC touring car.<\/p>\n

Keeping within the rules, BMW fit new carbon fiber doors with Makrolon side windows. Makrolon is also used of the rear window. The engine remains stock and is only upgraded with a racing exhaust system and catalytic converter.<\/p>\n

BMW fit a new braking system with race-optimized ABS, BBS wheels and Dunlop tires to the GT4. Suspension is upgraded with adjustable shock absorbers. Power is transferred to a new differential is installed with a 4.10:1 final drive through a single-mass flywheel and 3-Disc sintered clutch.<\/p>\n

Inside is a new steering wheel with quick release and a Recaro racing seat with with the HANS system. Also included is a laptimer display and 100l FT3 safety fuel tank.<\/p>\n

The GT4 is currently available for \u20ac120,000 and will be launched at the N\u00fcrburgring 24 Hour race.<\/p>\n

N\u00fcrburgring 24 Hours<\/h4>\n

Munich, 9th April 2009. The BMW works drivers Augusto Farfus (BR), J\u00f6rg M\u00fcller (DE) and Andy Priaulx (GB) will line up at the 24-hour race on the N\u00fcrburgring\u2019s Nordschleife on 23rd\/24th May 2009. This will also mark the debut of the BMW M3 GT4 at this legendary endurance race.<\/p>\n

M\u00fcller and Priaulx will be behind the wheel of the BMW M3 GT4 when they race for Schubert Motorsport in the Eifel region. The two drivers, who are normally involved in a battle for glory for BMW in the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC), will join forces with motor racing journalists Marcus Schurig (DE) and Jochen \u00dcbler (DE). The editors of the specialist \u201csport auto\u201d magazine in Germany have many years of racing experience behind them, and have entered the \u201cGreen Hell\u201d numerous times in the past. Together with tyre partner Dunlop, this quartet of drivers has its sights set on a top position in the SP10 class.<\/p>\n

BMW Motorsport Director, Mario Theissen, says: \u201cAlthough we will not be represented by a works team at this year\u2019s 24-hour race, our Customer Racing programme ensures that our fans will still see plenty of BMW racing cars and BMW works drivers. We will be particularly interested in how the new BMW M3 GT4 performs, which is fielded by Schubert Motorsport in cooperation with \u2018sport auto\u2019. J\u00f6rg M\u00fcller and Andy Priaulx are two former overall winners in the Eifel. Spectators can certainly look forward to an exciting weekend.\u201d<\/p>\n

The BMW M3 GT4, the youngest addition to the Customer Racing product range offered by the BMW Motorsport Distribution division, made its debut on the legendary Nordschleife in front of many BMW fans at last weekend\u2019s 56th ADAC Westfalenfahrt. After four hours, M\u00fcller and \u00dcbler were victorious in the SP10 class, and finished 30th overall.<\/p>\n

The Nordschleife at the N\u00fcrburgring has played a very special role in the history of BMW. BMW drivers have enjoyed countless successes there since the first 24-hour race was held in 1970. Last year alone, one third of the 150 cars that completed the 24-hour race were BMW made. With 114 class victories, BMW is by far the most successful manufacturer in the history of the event.<\/p>\n

To date, the marque has 18 overall victories to its name, and has even achieved a one-two on eight occasions. Most recently, the BMW M3 GTR enjoyed double success in 2004 and 2005. J\u00f6rg M\u00fcller was a member of the winning team back in 2004, while Priaulx was triumphant in 2005.<\/p>\n
