To take on the might of both Ferrari and Porsche, his company, Doran Enterprises, has convered the Ford GT into an all-out racecar. Called the GT-R this variant is prepared to ACO GT2 specifications which make it eligible for FIA GT, ALMS and the 24 Hours of LeMans.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Doran&#8217;s car is the third Ford GT designed for the track and trails the GT300 made in 2005 by TOM&#8217;S for the Japanese DHG championship and the Matech GT that currently dominates FIA GT3.<\/p>\n<p>Doran transforms the GT-R out of his workshop in Lebanon, Ohio. It uses a naturally aspirated version of the GT&#8217;S V8 which is prepared by Roush Industries. With all the restrictors, the racecar actually makes less horsepower than the road version. The engine is mated to a 6-speed Emco transmission.<\/p>\n<p>The chassis was modified to include a wider track, lower ride height and new suspension geometry. Overall bodyshape was left unchanged, but new carbon fiber panels include larger wheel arches and a deep front splitter.<\/p>\n<p>Robertson Racing took delivery of the first GT-R and debuted it at the Sebring 12 Hours. Despite a lack of track testing, the car made the distance and placed 10th in class. This set the tone for the rest of the season, finishing at best 8th in class at the Detroit GP. Throughout the season they suffered a crash at Limerock and engine failure at Mosport which resulted in DNFs.
