2005 Volkswagen EcoRacer Concept<\/h1>\n

Wolfsburg \/ Tokyo, 19 October 2005 – At the Tokyo Motor Show, Volkswagen presents an incredibly economic sports car. The EcoRacer’s average fuel consumption is as low as 69 mpg (29km\/l) and it reaches a maximum speed of 143 mph (230 kmh).<\/span><\/p>\n

Thanks to its carbon fiber body, this mid engine sports car weighs a mere 850 kilograms and accelerates in only 6.3 seconds to 100 km\/h. EcoRacer is powered by a next generation 134 bhp (100 kw) turbo diesel engine.<\/p>\n

Between 1900 and 3750 rpm, the 1484 cc four-valve engine develops a torque of more than 250 Newton metres. The unit is both light and compact, and conforms to the EU-5 exhaust standard. The gearbox of the turbo-diesel is the DSG double-clutch transmission.<\/p>\n

Thanks to a removable T-bar roof and rear hatch, this makes the EcoRacer is firstly, a coupe, and secondly, a roadster with an exchangeable front windscreen. A special catch in the area of the A column can be released to allow the windscreen with frame and the upper dashboard housing to be taken off and replaced with different versions.<\/p>\n

The body design with its new sports car front configuration, LED head and rear lights-system, solid proportions and strong lines, EcoRacer demonstrates that even very economical cars can be stylish and quick.<\/p>\n
