It replaced the 1970 Swinger 340 which was also geared towards cheap performance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Demon was the top of the line A-Body from the Valiant family and Chrysler christened the car with devil logo. It was aggressive looking with its side stripes, hood scoops, rear spoiler and dual exhausts. Options included hood pins, four-speed manual and a TorqueFlite automatic.<\/p>\n<p>Under the body, the Demon got a new &#8216;Rallye Suspension&#8217; that included heavy duty shocks, big brakes and a floor-mounted transmission that mated to the 340 V8. Inside the Demon had a bench seat and a &#8216;Rallye&#8217; instrument cluster.<\/p>\n<p>By 1973, Christian groups complained about the name and the car&#8217;s devil logo, so it was renamed into the more casual &#8216;Dart Sport&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/1971-dodge-demon-340\/1971_dodge_demon3401\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-194052\"><img decoding=\"async\"
