Ferrari went ahead and downsized their approach, building a 3 liter prototype in 1969, calling it the 312 P. It was basically a 3-liter F1 engined Ferrari312 with open Barchetta body. Ferrari soon thereafter closed the top. The 3.0 liter V12 engine produced 450 bhp at 10,800 rpm.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Ferrari 312 P was raced in 1969 and 1970. The new 1971 version of the sports prototype came with a flat-12 engine, often referred to as a boxer engine.
