They were piloting chassis 0280AM, a red 340 MM with race number 547. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>Under the hood different carburetion helped the 340 achieve 300 hp, some 20 more than its Mexico counterpart.<\/p>\n<p>Ferrari sold two 340 MMs to North America with blue and white-painted Vignale bodywork: Sterling Edwards received 0350AM while Bill Spear raced 0324AM. Edwards won four races outright on the west coast in one year and received a rare congratulations from Enzo Ferrari; typically Ferrari didn&#8217;t correspond directly with private American
