It was developed exclusively by Pininfarina to have a semi-automatic soft top. Ferrari spent a lot of time (1,800 hours) testing the design in the wind tunnel, resulting in what many believe was the first aerodynamically driven blend of elegant style and performance. The semi-automatic soft-top was powered electronically (a first for Ferrari at the time).<\/p>\n<p>Ferrari produced 3,717 Spiders from 1995 until 1999. 2,664 of these came equipped with the 6-speed manual transmission while the other 1,053 were sold with the expensive F1 electrohydraulic manual transmission.<\/p>\n<p>Apart from the displacement increase from 3.4 to 3.5 L, the major difference between the V8 engine in the previous generation 348 and F355 was the introduction of a 5-valve cylinder head which ultimately allowed for better intake permeability and thus more power.
