In the late 1980s Ferrari spent considerable time and money to federalize the Ferrari F40<\/a> for sales in the USA. Thus 213 cars were sold directly to new owners in the USA that met the strict EPA and DOT regulations. <\/span><\/p>\n

The USA cars are easily identified by their rubber front valance and rubber bumper strips that run on both the front and rear. These were designed by Fioravanti to meet minimum bumper height requirements in the USA.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, behind the bumpers Ferrari extensively modified the supporting box-structures and used new designs of deformable Hytrel absorbing elements that attached to the subframes. These helped the car pass the 30 mph crash tests. Other changes were made that included replacing the fuel cell with aluminum fuel tanks.The doors were also fitted with more reinforcements to comply with side-impact protection. Inside, the US F40s had unique seats and automatic seat belts.<\/p>\n

In meeting the strict emissions regulations, the F40 was equipped with metal catalytic converters which necessitated new cam timing and Weber-Marelli electronic management. To deal with the heat of the catalytic converters, exhaust cooling injection was fitted as well as large heat screens that protected the large lexan engine cover.<\/p>\n

In total all the new systems in the F40 added around 115 kgs (250 lbs) of weight to the car. To make up for the increased bulk, Ferrari modified the engine to produce 515 bhp. The price for the USA-Spec F40 was $415,000 USD which was much more expensive than the European counterpart.<\/p>\n

1991 Ferrari F40 ZFFMN34A2M0089441<\/a> – sold for $715,000. <\/b>Chassis number 89441 has been tracked by Ferrari experts since it was originally advertised in the Los Angeles Times by Ogner Motorcars, of Woodland Hills, on October 13, 1991. It was first sold in 1992, but for the next 10 years, it was stored in a temperature-controlled room as part of a fine arts collection. In 2002, it was offered by Newport Autosport, showing only 530 miles.<\/p>\n

A major service was completed in 2003, and by the following year, the car still only had 4,218 indicated miles and two owners from new. 1990 Ferrari F40<\/a> – sold for $386,500. <\/b>A U.S. delivery model \u2013 important to those who wish actually to enjoy the experience of F40 performance instead of regarding it passively as an object \u2013 its only concession to creature comforts is the air conditioning with which it was fitted as standard and the power-operated rollup windows which Ferrari made part of the F40’s equipment early in the production run. It is finished in Rosso Corsa with black interior appointments and red cloth covered racing seats. The clear plastic shipping covers still protect the interior carbon fiber sill panels.<\/p>\n

It was acquired as a new car by Mike Amalfitano from Miller Motorcars on November 30, 1990. Shortly after leaving the showroom, and likely inspired by the success of the more powerful Ferrari F40 LM, Mike purchased a kit to make his already very fast sportscar even faster. The exhaust was modified to an open system, the suspension was completely uprated with new coil-over springs and struts, new and more powerful turbochargers were fitted, and the ECU was reprogrammed to squeeze even more power out of the engine. A new Brembo brake system, including discs, cylinders, and pedal box was added as well to match the car’s increased performance. Mike obviously enjoyed his F40, as the car had its 15,000 mile service at 10,274 miles in December 2000. 1991 Ferrari F40 US-Specification <\/a> – sold for $583,000. <\/b>The 133rd of only 213 US-delivered F40s, 089216 is essentially still in showroom-fresh condition with less than 1,200 miles on the odometer. A clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report\u2122 clearly documents the low mileage of the car. The bodywork looks lovely and equally impressive is the black trim, from the lower front lip spoiler to the rear mesh grill. Under the engine lid, the powerful twin-turbocharged V-8 engine looks as clean as the bodywork, with all hoses, lines, clips, fasteners and heat reflective foil in remarkable condition. The front compartment reveals the tool kits in their original pouches, their contents unused. Even the factory Schedoni luggage accompanies the sale of the car.<\/p>\n

Inside, the red Nomex\u00ae-covered racing bucket seats appear to have had very little use and give a brilliant splash of color to the serious carbon fiber cockpit. There are no electric windows or sound system \u2013 the F40 is its own entertainment, providing a wonderful sound with the windows down.<\/p>\n

Acquired by the consignor in August 2001, this F40 became part of a foremost collection and was given regular and meticulous attention, including a recent major service during which the mandated fuel pump update was performed. Prior to its current Californian ownership, it is believed that the car had only one owner, most likely also in California. This ultra-high-performance Ferrari is so well cared for that it still has the factory-installed protection film on the doorsills and wears the same tires that were fitted at the factory when new. 1991 Ferrari F40 89888<\/a> – sold for $462,000. <\/b>The 1991 Ferrari F40 presented here is among the last examples of this elite breed to have been produced, built in June 1991. The 144th F40 developed for the North American market, it was delivered in August 1991 to Ferrari of Houston in Houston, Texas. Accumulating just 1,800 miles in its first five years, it was offered by Ferrari of Dallas in 1996 and then made its way to the East Coast where it has resided since, showing less than 5,500 miles.<\/p>\n

Painted, of course, in Ferrari’s trademark Rosso Corsa red over red cloth, the F40 is presented in absolutely superb, virtually flawless condition \u2013 as would be expected by a pedigreed car gently enjoyed by enthusiasts since new.<\/p>\n

The F40 is all to original factory specification, with the exception of the fitment of a high-performance Tubi sport muffler. It has recently received a major service that included a timing belt replacement by an authorized Ferrari dealer.
