In 1951 Allard updated their their J2 sports car into the J2X which have revised front suspension and extended the front bodywork.<\/span><\/p>\n

Specifically the J2X used a trailing radius arm setup on the front suspension that extended the chassis 6 inches forward.<\/p>\n

Like the outgoing J2, the J2X used a variety of V8 engines just as the HEMI Chrysler and Cadillac units.<\/p>\n

The Allard Registry reports that 83 J2X chassis were made making the combined total of J2 and J2x chassis 173.<\/p>\n

1952 Allard J2X ‘Little Red’ Chassis no. J2X3142<\/a> – sold for $194,000<\/b><\/p>\n

This J2X has a fairly well documented history. In May 1984 it was purchased by Duncan Emmons, who had established his body shop\/garage in Rancho Mirage California in 1955. Duncan was an avid vintage racer and was enthusiastic for the big American engine specials of the 50s. He suffered a fatal heart attack while doing what he loved, vintage racing his 1953 Kurtis 500S at his favorite vintage event, the Coronado Classic. The present vendor bought the Allard in 2006 from Emmons, specifically to use on the many 1000 mile USA rallies. He immediately had the car prepared for the grueling rally tests and spent just under $45,000 to make it into a reliable, more tractable car for its new mission. The automatic transmission was replaced by a 4-speed manual, the braking system and radiator rebuilt and new rear shocks fitted. After the race, another $1,600 was expended rectifying small problems. The car appeared on the next year\u2019s Copperstate 2007 poster.<\/div>\n
