Chassis no. J2X3142<\/a> &#8211; sold for $194,000<\/b><\/p>\n<div class=\"copy-paste-block\">This J2X has a fairly well documented history. In May 1984 it was purchased by Duncan Emmons, who had established his body shop\/garage in Rancho Mirage California in 1955. Duncan was an avid vintage racer and was enthusiastic for the big American engine specials of the 50s. He suffered a fatal heart attack while doing what he loved, vintage racing his 1953 Kurtis 500S at his favorite vintage event, the Coronado Classic. The present vendor bought the Allard in 2006 from Emmons, specifically to use on the many 1000 mile USA rallies. He immediately had the car prepared for the grueling rally tests and spent just under $45,000 to make it into a reliable, more tractable car for its new mission. The automatic transmission was replaced by a 4-speed manual, the braking system and radiator rebuilt and new rear shocks fitted. After the race, another $1,600 was expended rectifying small problems.
