It was the Prest-O-Lite Trophy Race and car number 21 was driven by Jap Clemens for the weekend&#8217;s races. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>Stoddard-Daytons were promoted and distributed by Carl Fisher, one of the founders or the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.<\/p>\n<p>The car currently displayed at #21 is a tribute model built on an original and correct Model K chasiss. Don Lyons purchased it in 1978 complete with engine, transmission, axles and wheels. Over top of this was fitted bodywork that matched the Model K first driven at the inaugural Indianapolis races.<\/p>\n<p>In 2009 the car was auction by Gooding &amp; Company for their Pebble Beach Auction. They described the car as <i>&#8220;While it may not be the very car that ran in 1909, it closely resembles the Jap Clemens\u2019 Stoddard- Dayton that ran in the first events at the Brickyard. The only deviation is a modern 12-volt starter, making it an easy and safe car to start, and a much friendlier proposition for the casual enthusiast. The car is beautifully presented in its original gray and red livery and accurately resembles a high-performance Brass Era speedster. It is said to perform beautifully, running effortlessly at 45 mph.
