Here we have a street worthy GT40 that doesn&#8217;t lose any of the originals car&#8217;s essence.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Called the SPF GT, this silver supercar is meant to mimic the performance and specification of the Mark II GT40 that won the24 Hours at Le Mans in 1966. This replica differs from any other in that it has an exact copy of the original\u2019s steel tub chassis. To make the car more habitable, the SPF GT has been equipped with a custom made air conditioner and more interior space thanks to repositioned seats.<\/p>\n<p>Each SPF GT will be sold as a rolling tub that can be equipped with the purchaser&#8217;s choice of engines. Superformance say their design is flexible enough to accommodate both small and large block engines, and if the owner can locate a 427 with matching T44 transaxle, they will have a very close replica of the 67 LeMans car.<\/p>\n<p>The SPF GT without engine and transmission costs $65,000 USD. Depending on the drive train the buyer wishes to acquire and install or have installed, he can have his GT on the road for between $80,000 and $90,000.<\/p>\n<p>Right now the first few chassis are being assembled at HiTech Automotive&#8217;s plant in South Africa. Chassis 001 is touring the US while a sleek red example is going to be displayed at the upcoming Essen motorshow.
