Coppa Intereuropa organizer Jason Wright will shake up this year\u2019s Monza meeting, scheduled for June 1\u20133, with a four-hour race on Saturday June 2 echoing the famous Monza 1000-kilometer contests of the \u201960s and \u201970s. The Monza 1000K was for many years the highlight of the Italian season, often eclipsing the Italian GP in popularity. The same cars that were eligible then will be eligible now.<\/p>\n

As in the early \u201970s, in addition to the pre-1972 prototypes, Touring and GT cars of the same period will be accepted in their own classes. Entry to the race is by invitation only, and on Sunday the same cars will be lined up in reverse grid order for a five-lap shootout, with the winner receiving what\u2019s being termed \u201ca big prize.\u201d<\/p>\n

A full complement of support races are also scheduled for the three-day meeting, including two of the most competitive series in historic racing today, Classic F3 and U2TC, not to mention the famous and very popular Alfa-only race of the Scuderia del Portello.
