However, the new Lotus Elise is just not known for being fast but also for having incredible balance making it as one of the best handling cars in the market today. It&#8217;s a car equipped with a\u00a0supercharged 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine that produces 243bhp. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/lotus\/\">Lotus<\/a> made an emphasis on making the car easy to maneuver. Our friends from Carfection, takes the\u00a0Lotus Elise Cup 250 for a spin to see if it really is one the best handling cars.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">PURITY OF PURPOSE<\/h2>\n<p>The Cup badge is not for show. It\u2019s the mark of a car that was built to lap hard all day without complaint and could be raced competitively by adding little more than a roll cage. Bred for the track but brilliant on the road, the Elise Cup 250 uses highly advanced aerodynamics to generate 148kg of downforce at its maximum speed of 154mph. That amounts to a 14% increase in the car\u2019s weight at high speed, literally out of thin air.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">PEAK PERFORMANCE<\/h2>\n<p>Chargecooled for a consistent 245bhp, the all-alloy, 1.8-litre supercharged four-cylinder rockets the Elise Cup 250 from 0-60mph in 3.9 secs and to a top speed of 154mph. Hethel\u2019s acoustic engineers have improved the exhaust note, adding a thrilling soundtrack for even greater driver engagement. It sounds better still through the optional, 7kg lighter, titanium exhaust system. The slick six-speed manual gearbox now uses the beautifully detailed open-gate design. Optimised for the Elise, it provides faster, more positive, more tactile gear changes. The Cup 250 features fully independent double wishbone suspension and an adjustable front anti-roll bar coupled with Bilstein high-performance dampers and Eibach coaxial coil springs front and rear. Compared to the Elise Sport 220, damper rates are higher (compression: 12% front\/9% rear and rebound: 20% front\/30% rear). AP Racing twin-piston ventilated brake discs provide exceptional, fade-free stopping power. Optional two-piece brake discs save a further 4kg. Making the most of the downforce and firmer damping, Yokohama Advan A052 tyres (195\/50 ZR16 front and 225\/45 ZR17 rear) provide phenomenal grip under a broad range of temperatures on road and track. A standard T45 steel roll over bar adds yet more strength and torsional rigidity to the pioneering chassis.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">ENGINEERED LIGHT<\/h2>\n<p>The current Elise Cup 250 weighs-in 14kg lighter than its predecessor. The adoption of carbon fibre, titanium and aluminium has helped reduce mass from crucial areas benefitting acceleration, braking, cornering and weight distribution. The Cup 250 features, as standard, a Lithium-Ion battery, carbon race seats, ultra-lightweight motorsport forged alloy wheels and a polycarbonate rear screen. Further weight savings can be made by ordering the beautifully finished, optional Carbon Fibre Aero Pack. This includes a front splitter, rear wing and bargeboards (-3.7kg), hard-top (-3kg), front access panel (-1.1kg), roll-over hoop cover (-0.7kg) and engine cover (-3.3kg). Either way, Cup 250\u2019s radical aerodynamics modify airflow over, under and around the car to generate 148kg of downforce at 149mph. What you\u2019ll notice is exceptional high-speed stability and even keener turn-in.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">DRIVER FOCUSED<\/h2>\n<p>The Elise Cup 250\u2019s cabin invites drivers to settle into the carbon race seats and feel the embrace of black Alcantara\u00ae with contrast red or yellow stitching. The trim design is carried through to the door panels and face-level vents, complementing the exposed aluminium elements. Interior options include an Alcantara\u00ae trimmed steering wheel, leather or tartan trim packs. Additional weight saving carbon fibre options include face-level vents (-0.3kg), HVAC surrounds (-0.1kg), and sill covers (-0.8kg). Beautifully finished with gloss lacquer over the carbon fibre weave, the sill covers aid ingress and egress thanks to a 10mm lower profile.
