October 2020 marks forty years since Citro\u00ebn<\/a> launched the \u201cCharleston\u201d special series.\u00a0It was back in 1980 when Citro\u00ebn released 8,000 2CV Charleston models for the price of 24,800 Francs. The new model retained its iconic round headlights and was matched with the maroon and black body paint.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Following in the footsteps of the 2CV Spot<\/a> from 1976,\u00a0the 2CV6 Charleston\u00a0started the new wave of limited editions. Despite the finish of the 2CV Charleston being inspired by the Citro\u00ebn 2CV Club<\/a>, the 2CV6 Charleston was a standout due to its special upholstery and the round headlights,\u00a0similar to\u00a0the one on the 2CV\u00a0Sp\u00e9cial.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

In July 1981, due to the immense popularity of the limited series model, Citro\u00ebn decided to include it in the Citro\u00ebn catalogue\u00a0and commence mass production at the Levallois plant.<\/a> The mass-produced version was different from the limited edition that was initially released in terms of its diamond-patterned grey upholstery and chrome headlights that were fitted.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The cars were initially released with a Delage Red and Black finish, and by July 1982, they added a\u00a0H\u00e9lios\u00a0Yellow and Black variant.\u00a0In July 1983, they replaced the\u00a0H\u00e9lios\u00a0Yellow with a version that had two shades of grey, Cormorant Grey and Night Grey.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

In 1988, production proceeded at the\u00a0Mangualde\u00a0plant located in Portugal. The\u00a0Mangualde\u00a0models are easily identifiable by their windows as it sports the name of their Spanish glazier, \u201cCovina.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

At 4:30pm on July 27, 1990, the final 2CV, a Night Grey and Cormorant Grey 2CVC6 Charleston, left the\u00a0Mangualda\u00a0production line. At this time, there were a total of 5,114,969\u00a0units produced.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The 2CV is an iconic vehicle of the automotive world and\u00a0has been a constant darling of collectors around the world. The Charleston was very instrumental in the success of the 2CV in the last 10 years of its production.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
