Photo by Brian Henniker.<\/figcaption>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The 1954 <a href=\"https:\/\/sportscardigest.com\/aston-martin-db5\/\">Aston Martin<\/a> presented is one of only two DB2\/4 chassis that were constructed with the exquisite convertible body style and was released in the early years of the David Brown era.\u00a0This magnificent car is among an elite group of Bertone-bodied Aston Martins.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Based on factory records, Aston Martin completed chassis LML\/506 on June 9, 1953. Photo by Brian Henniker.<\/figcaption>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The year after, in 1955, the Bertone-bodied Aston Martin was entered in the Pebble Beach Concours\u00a0d\u2019Elegance\u00a0where it finished third in its class.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The example was passed on to a series of owners until it was finally sold to a UK collector. Photo by Brian Henniker.<\/figcaption>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>After passing among a succession of owners, LML\/506 was sold to a UK collector, who in 2006 completed a full restoration to concours standards.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>It would take five years before the Bertone Drophead coup\u00e9 had its post-restoration debut. It was entered in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amoc.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Aston Martin Owners Club Autumn Concours <\/a>where it won first place in the Feltham Aston Class.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Since its debut, the LML\/506 has not been exhibited. The example is offered complete with a proper took kit\u00a0and extensive history file which includes a copy of the factory build sheet, correspondence, BMIHT Certificate, restoration records, ownership documents, and photographs.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Chassis LML\/506 is a unique opportunity to obtain a distinctly beautiful\u00a0coachbuilt\u00a0Aston Martin. Photos by Angus Dykman<\/figcaption>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>For its performance, the Type 37 depended on its simple and lightweight design, and could easily reach speeds of 90mph.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>It was not long before the Type 37s became widely known as race-winning machines. They were participants in\u00a0all of\u00a0the great road races at the time including the <a href=\"https:\/\/sportscardigest.com\/history-of-the-targa-florio-race-profile\/\">Targa Florio<\/a>, Mille\u00a0Miglia, and the grueling<a href=\"https:\/\/sportscardigest.com\/1955-24-hours-of-le-mans-race-profile\/\"> Le Mans<\/a>.\u00a0Due to its mechanical strength, the Type 37 is one of those rare cars that\u00a0could be driven hard all day long and was still capable to be driven home, with room for a passenger as well.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Chassis 37227 was ordered by a gentleman from a small village in Southwest France,\u00a0Luxey, on December 2, 1926. Photos by Angus Dykman<\/figcaption>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>It was in the mid-1950s that the example was saved from the garage by what would become its long-term owner, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Peter_Larkin_(production_designer)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Peter Larkin<\/a> from New York City.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Mr. Larkin was an influential four-time Tony Award \u00ae-winning Broadway set designer. Since he passed in 2019, the car has remained in his family.
