The car would go on to become one of the most iconic models in super sports car history.\u00a0But its story started 5 years prior to this with a codename &#8216;Project 132&#8217;. Here is a concise timeline of the production of the <a href=\"https:\/\/sportscardigest.com\/lamborghini-diablo\/\">Lamborghini Diablo<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>In 1985 Automobili Lamborghini was working on Project 132, with the intention of\u00a0succeeding the Countach at the top of the Lamborghini range.<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Lamborghini-Diablo-two-1-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-605375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Lamborghini-Diablo-two-1-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"437\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Lamborghini-Diablo-two-1-1.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Lamborghini-Diablo-two-1-1-300x175.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Lamborghini-Diablo-two-1-1-100x58.jpg 100w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Lamborghini-Diablo-two-1-1-293x171.jpg 293w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sportscardigest.com\/bugatti-eb110\/\">Marcello Gandini<\/a> styled clean and aggressive lines for the Diablo, however, they were somewhat altered by Chrysler\u2019s design center, which at the time became a major stakeholder of\u00a0Automobili\u00a0Lamborghini.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>When it was released it became officially the fastest production vehicle in the world, with a top speed of 203.1mph.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/573870-1-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-605370\" src=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/573870-1-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"499\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/573870-1-1.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/573870-1-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/573870-1-1-100x67.jpg 100w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/573870-1-1-360x240.jpg 360w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/573870-1-1-370x247.jpg 370w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/573870-1-1-293x195.jpg 293w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The car was equipped with the classic Lamborghini 12-cylinder set-up. This included a 5.7-liter engine, four overhead camshafts, and four valves per\u00a0cylinder.\u00a0The output of this engine was an incredible 485 HP with 580 NM of torque.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Although the car had a luxurious finish with a leather interior, electric windows, air conditioning, and electrically adjustable seats, the Diablo at its core is still a hard and pure car with traction on the rear wheels only. You will not find electronic driving aids or power steering as they were not available until 1993.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/573871-1-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-605371\" src=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/573871-1-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"499\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/573871-1-1.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/573871-1-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/573871-1-1-100x67.jpg 100w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/573871-1-1-360x240.jpg 360w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/573871-1-1-370x247.jpg 370w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/573871-1-1-293x195.jpg 293w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>By 1993, the Diablo VT was launched by\u00a0Automobili\u00a0Lamborghini which was the first Lamborghini\u00a0Granturismo\u00a0to be a four-wheel drive.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>It was also in 1993 that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lamborghini.com\/en-en\">Automobili\u00a0Lamborghini<\/a> announced the SE30 series to commemorate the company\u2019s 30th anniversary, a series that increased the power to 523 HP.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/573863-1-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-605369\" src=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/573863-1-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"453\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/573863-1-1.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/573863-1-1-300x181.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/573863-1-1-100x60.jpg 100w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/573863-1-1-293x177.jpg 293w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>In 1995, the Diablo SV made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show, which was only available in a two-wheel-drive version\u00a0with a maximum power output of 510 HP and an adjustable rear wing.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>By the end of the same year, in December, the Diablo VT Roadster was introduced to the market. It was the first 12-cylinder, open-roofed, and mass-produced Lamborghini. The lines of the VT Roadster\u00a0were\u00a0slightly changed and was\u00a0only offered with the four-wheel drive transmission.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Fast forward to 1999, after the Audi Group successfully purchased\u00a0Automobili\u00a0Lamborghini,\u00a0the Diablo SV was unveiled. This was designed by <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Luc_Donckerwolke\">Luc\u00a0Donckerwolke<\/a>, Lamborghini\u2019s\u00a0initial in-house designer.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/573877-1-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-605373\" src=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/573877-1-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"390\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/573877-1-1.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/573877-1-1-300x156.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/573877-1-1-100x52.jpg 100w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/573877-1-1-293x152.jpg 293w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Similar to\u00a0the VT and the VT Roadster, the SV had revised lines and interior that clearly highlighted the modernization of the Diablo.
