The luxury\u00a0hypercar\u00a0which embodied the\u00a0&#8216;hyperlux&#8217;\u00a0segment became the highlight of the Swiss exhibition. The extra attention is no surprise given the Carmen is the epitome of the DNA and values that made the legendary Hispano\u00a0Suiza\u00a0the pride for the Spanish automotive industry.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-default\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/sportscardigest.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/FromLegendtoReality2-1-1.jpg\" alt=\"Hispano Suiza\" class=\"wp-image-302203\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dami%C3%A0_Mateu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dami\u00e1n\u00a0Mateu<\/a>\u00a0founded Hispano\u00a0Suiza\u00a0on June 14, 1904. He was supported by a Swiss engineer, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hemmings.com\/stories\/article\/marc-birkigt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Marc\u00a0Birkigt<\/a>,\u00a0who came to Spain with the idea of revolutionizing the automobile industry and\u00a0had worked on the Hispano\u00a0Suiza\u2019s\u00a0predecessors: La\u00a0Cuadra\u00a0and\u00a0J.Castro.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Since the beginning of the 20th century, Birkigt\u00a0had worked on the construction of 10 and 14 hp automobiles, which fostered the foundations of the company. <\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-default\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/sportscardigest.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/HSFloridablancasFactoryinBarcelona-1.jpg\" alt=\"HS Floridablanca's Factory in Barcelona\" class=\"wp-image-302204\"\/><figcaption>HS Floridablanca&#8217;s Factory in Barcelona<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:4px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n<p>In 1905 Hispano\u00a0Suiza\u00a0was able to produce their first vehicle, the armored type\u00a0Birkigt\u00a0system. It had a four-cylinder engine that can produce 20 CV of power and capable of a top speed of 87 kph. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>A year later, they produced the first six-cylinder engine car that was made in Spain. The car\u00a0could produce\u00a075 HP of power\u00a0and was able to finish the Perpignan-Paris route in 22 hours, an accomplishment that attracted much media attention.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p>As Hispano\u00a0Suiza\u00a0grew, it set up a factory in France. Their worldwide expansion was aided by selling their manufacturing license to other manufacturers in Italy, United Kingdom, and\u00a0the former Czechoslovakia. Slowly, it started to match the great manufacturers of its time with its name synonymous with leisure and luxury.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-default\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/sportscardigest.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/KingAlfonsoXIIIwiththeHispanoSuizacarmodelthatbearshisname.-1.jpg\" alt=\"King Alfonso XIII with the Hispano Suiza car model\" class=\"wp-image-302205\"\/><figcaption>King Alfonso XIII with the Hispano Suiza car model that bears his name<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:11px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Their cars caught the eye of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/biography\/Alfonso-XIII\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">King Alfonso XIII<\/a>,  a car enthusiast. The monarch helped in the publicity of Hispano\u00a0Suiza, giving it national and international visibility. He played such a pivotal role within the brand that they named a car after him, the T45,\u00a0also known as \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/sportscardigest.com\/rm-auctions-amelia-island-2012-auction-preview\/\">Alfonso XIII<\/a>.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Hispano Suiza Stork<\/h4>\n\n\n<p>During World War I,\u00a0Hispano\u00a0Suiza\u00a0utilized their knowledge and experience in the automotive industry to construct aviation engines.\u00a0It was a crucial time for the company in which they thrived. <\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-default\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/sportscardigest.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/ThestorktheemblemofHispanoSuiza-1_1-1.jpg\" alt=\"The stork, the emblem of Hispano Suiza\" class=\"wp-image-302206\"\/><figcaption>The stork, the emblem of Hispano Suiza<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:1px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n<p>The legacy of the success of its aeronautical engine manufacturing can still be seen today through its legendary logo: the stork. The stork was a tribute to the French squadron emblem that was painted on the side of a fighter aircraft equipped with a Hispano-Suiza\u00a0engine that was flown in World War I.\u00a0The stork, along with the Spanish and Swiss flags has graced the trademark logo of Hispano\u00a0Suiza.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The H6B was the first model to display the silver stork logo. It was an innovative vehicle with a 6-cylinder engine and a top speed of 150 kph. Hispano Suiza debuted the Dubonnet Xenia at the Paris Motor Show in 1932.\u00a0The Xenia was based on the <a href=\"https:\/\/sportscardigest.com\/photo-gallery\/2018-rodeo-drive-concours\/\">H6B<\/a> and Dubonnet himself designed parts of the independent suspension system and had leaf springs in place of coil springs.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-default\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/sportscardigest.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Thestorksoarsagain-1-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-302208\"\/><figcaption>The stork rises again<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:8px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Another version was launched in 1936 that was a greater improvement than its predecessor in terms of design and aerodynamics. It displayed sliding doors, futuristic lines, a wraparound windscreen, and was equipped with the Hispano type 68 bis 12-cylinder engine that was capable of producing 250hp.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p>After the Spanish Civil War, Hispano\u00a0Suiza\u00a0continued to innovate more powerful engines and automobiles with a more exclusive design like the T60 and K36. <\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-default\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/sportscardigest.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/PaulMcCartneyandHispanoSuizaH6-PhbyJSeymour_1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-302207\"\/><figcaption>Paul McCartney and his girlfriend Jane Asher pictured in the singers 1929 Hispano Suiza H6 <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Eventually, a restructure of the company divided\u00a0the company\u00a0into three\u00a0areas;\u00a0one area in aviation and military\u00a0equipment, a second in cars, buses, and trucks, and a third in machinery and tools.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p>After some very financially difficult years, and after \u201cLa Hispano-Suiza,\u00a0 F\u00e1brica\u00a0de\u00a0Autom\u00f3vil, SA\u201d was nationalized, Hispano\u00a0Suiza\u2019s\u00a0operation was halted in 1953.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p>In 2019 Hispano\u00a0Suiza\u00a0was relaunched when it debuted a fully electric new vehicle, the Carmen.\u00a0The model was built, designed, and developed completely in Spain with the ability to produce 1,019hp. <\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-default\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/sportscardigest.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/InspirationofHispanoSuizaCarmen-1-1.jpg\" alt=\"Hispano Suiza of yesterday and today\" class=\"wp-image-302209\"\/><figcaption>Hispano Suiza of yesterday and today: the Dubonnet Xenia (above) and the Carmen.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:6px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n<p>The exterior is inspired by the classic Dubonnet Xenia and embodies the values that have made Hispano\u00a0Suiza\u00a0one of the most luxurious automotive companies with timeless design and exceptional craftsmanship.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p>In 2020, they released an even more radical version in the Carmen Boulogne. Capable of producing 1,114hp,&nbsp;it was made to honor Dubonnet\u2019s victory in France.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Its most radical version, the Carmen Boulogne, arrived in 2020.
