Karges<\/cite><\/blockquote>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Here&#8217;s a look at the above new additions to The Vault at the Petersen Automotive Museum.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Packard\" style=\"text-align: center;\">1939 Packard Twelve Landaulet by Brewster\u00a0<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The 1920s saw the coachbuilding industry allowing clients to have exclusive customization abilities, especially for those who could afford to acquire it.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-default\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/1939-Packard-Twelve-Landaulet-1-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-597209\" src=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/1939-Packard-Twelve-Landaulet-1-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"563\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/1939-Packard-Twelve-Landaulet-1-1.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/1939-Packard-Twelve-Landaulet-1-1-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/1939-Packard-Twelve-Landaulet-1-1-100x75.jpg 100w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/1939-Packard-Twelve-Landaulet-1-1-293x220.jpg 293w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The body of this Packard was constructed by <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Brewster_%26_Co.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Brewster<\/a> to the specification of Post Cereals-heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post and was originally used on a 1927 Rolls-Royce chassis.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>In 1935, when the Rolls-Royce was\u00a0ready to be traded in for a new model, Ms. Post, so captivated by the bespoke coachwork, had it removed from the original Rolls-Royce and fitted on the more technically superior Packard Twelve chassis that she purchased specifically for it.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>In 1939, she repeated the process by placing the body on another new updated Packard Twelve chassis.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>This example is built in the \u201clandaulet de Ville\u201d style, with the coachwork comprises a top hat that can only be lowered over the rear-seat passengers. Meant to offer a preview of Bentley design in the postwar era, this \u201cNew Look\u201d Two-Door vehicles featured a streamlined design with integrated fenders, flat or \u201cslab\u201d sides, and enclosed rear wheels.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The example on display was exhibited at the 1948 Earl&#8217;s Court Motor Show and is one of only three Bentley \u201cNew Look\u201d Saloons built by the James Young firm.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-dots\" \/>\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"1959\" style=\"text-align: center;\">1959 Deutsch-Bonnet (DB) HBR5 Coupe by\u00a0Cottard\u00a0<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The French manufacturer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lanemotormuseum.org\/collection\/cars\/item\/deutsch-bonnet-hbr5-1955\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Deutsch-Bonnet<\/a> (DB) had already proven its success in international racing before releasing the HBR5 coupe, which would eventually become the company\u2019s most successful model.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-default\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/1959-Deutsch-Bonnet-HBR5-Coupe-1-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-597212\" src=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/1959-Deutsch-Bonnet-HBR5-Coupe-1-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"563\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/1959-Deutsch-Bonnet-HBR5-Coupe-1-1.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/1959-Deutsch-Bonnet-HBR5-Coupe-1-1-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/1959-Deutsch-Bonnet-HBR5-Coupe-1-1-100x75.jpg 100w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/1959-Deutsch-Bonnet-HBR5-Coupe-1-1-293x220.jpg 293w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>It featured a fiberglass body matched with a Panhard engine.\u00a0On display at the Petersen Automotive Museum, the example is one of only five models built with an aluminum body.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The HBR5 sets itself apart\u00a0not only through its construction but also for its racing history. Throughout the 1950s and in the early 1960s, the example extensively campaigned. The car&#8217;s design was intended to show features that would eventually appear on later Plymouth production models. The interior, much like the original, also has a pink crushed velvet upholstery, cocktail bar, and chandeliers.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>In April 2017, Historic Vehicle Association\u00a0inducted the\u00a0Gypsy Rose into the National Historic Vehicle Register.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-dots\" \/>\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Dale\" style=\"text-align: center;\">1974 Dale Mock-up\u00a0<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The Dale, built in Encino, California, was patterned after the 1974\u00a0Commutercycle\u00a0by Dale\u00a0Clifft, who sold his concept to businesswoman Geraldine Elizabeth Carmichael.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-default\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/1974-Dale-Mock-Up-1-2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-597203\" src=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/1974-Dale-Mock-Up-1-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"563\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/1974-Dale-Mock-Up-1-2.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/1974-Dale-Mock-Up-1-2-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/1974-Dale-Mock-Up-1-2-100x75.jpg 100w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/1974-Dale-Mock-Up-1-2-293x220.jpg 293w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Only three Dales were ever made: a running prototype that was poorly constructed, a non-running prototype, and a styling mock-up.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The example on display at the Petersen Automotive Museum is the non-running prototype Liz Carmichael displayed at her Encino office.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The Dale was advertised as a space-age economy car that was capable of 70 miles per gallon and run at 85mph. Carmichael used the Dale to raise\u00a0approximately $2 million from naive investors and interested buyers who were attracted to a new fuel-efficient vehicle given the fuel-crisis that ravaged the country in the mid-1970s.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Despite the Dale gaining much publicity due to its fuel economy and innovative design, Carmichael\u2019s business was declared a scam. Glen A. Larson, the creator of\u00a0<em>Knight Rider<\/em>, picked the newly redesigned Firebird as the basis for K.I.T.T.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>He initially acquired 20 units for production use, with the example displayed as one of the four used in the show&#8217;s pilot episode.
