As the ninth annual The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering had chosen to honor Ferrari\u2019s limited edition, top-end America and Superamerica models, it was only fitting that the event\u2019s Best of Show award would go to Jack Thomas\u2019 1955 Ferrari 375 America. Crowds roaming the grounds of the Quail Lodge Golf Club in Carmel, California, were able to peruse nearly 200 examples of rare and valuable automotive and motorcycle artistry.<\/p>\n
Notable attendees\u00a0 at this year\u2019s event included Sir Stirling Moss, Jay Leno and Le Mans champion Derek Bell. Bell was interviewed on stage around midday and regaled the 3,000 attendees with stories from his many decades in motorsport.<\/p>\n
Also observed at this year\u2019s Quail were the 50th Anniversary of Phil Hill\u2019s 1961 World Championship for Ferrari; the 50th Anniversary of the introduction of the Jaguar E-Type; and the 1957 opening of Riverside International Raceway, the iconic Southern California venue that heralded a new era of permanent road racing circuits in America.<\/p>\n
The event generated more than $85,000 to benefit local charities aiding children and families including: The California Highway Patrol 11\u201399 Foundation; The American Red Cross, Monterey Bay Area Chapter; Rancho Cielo and CASA of Monterey County (Court Appointed Special Advocates).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
