From June 16 to June 19, 2021, 375 historic race cars participated in the 2021 1000\u00a0Miglia\u00a0in a route of more than 1,600 kilometers. Unlike previous races, the race traveled in a counterclockwise direction starting from Brescia.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The theme for the 2021 edition of the race was \u201cCrossing the future,\u201d\u00a0representing\u00a0the crossroads where the future and tradition meet, something which has always characterized the 1000\u00a0Miglia<\/a>.\u00a013 impressive modern\u00a0hypercars\u00a0and supercars from 1000\u00a0Miglia\u00a0Experience, symbolizing the future, participated in the race.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

First Leg: Brescia to Viareggio\u00a0<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

With the\u00a0Frecce\u00a0Tricolori\u00a0<\/a>at the forefront, 375 historic cars left Brescia at 1:30pm on June 16 to start their journey of more than 1,600 kilometers crossing the Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna, and Tuscany.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The first leg of the race saw participants travel towards the Tyrrhenian coast and conclude in Viareggio, with the journey incorporating the mountain pass Passo della Cisa.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Aside from the hundreds of historic cars, several special crews joined this year\u2019s race.\u00a0The Auto 1000, an Alfa Romeo Sport Spider 1954 that carried TV presenter Camila\u00a0Raznovich\u00a0accompanied the event, as well as the Pink Car,\u00a0with an all-female car crew that supports the fundraising activity organized by 1000\u00a0Miglia\u00a0Charity that will benefit a Women’s Cancer Center.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

From the first day, the heat and difficulties of the route were clear especially from the comments coming from numerous crews present, although the enthusiasm and their spirit of the competition were evident as they passed through the beautiful Italian locations.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Second Leg: Viareggio to Rome\u00a0<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

At 6:30 am, hundreds of car engines roared to life at Viareggio to start the second leg of their journey.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The second leg began in Viareggio, where the teams drove to Rome. The participants traveled along the picturesque Tyrrhenian coast into Castiglione\u00a0della\u00a0Pescaia<\/a>,\u00a0where lunch was scheduled.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

At the top of the provisional ranking\u00a0for the first leg\u00a0was number 43, the Alfa Romeo<\/a> 6C 1750 Super Sport of 1929\u00a0driven by Andrea\u00a0Vesco\u00a0and Fabio\u00a0Salvinelli.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Even before leaving Viareggio,\u00a0Vesco\u00a0already made his intentions clear stating:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

\r\n

\u201cThe first leg went very well, the variable weather helped, while today with a completely sunny day the cars will suffer a little. Last year we were on the podium, we have great expectations even if there are many opponents who contend for this title. But we are ready to have our say.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Coming in second, with just 302 points behind\u00a0was the O.M. 665 SMM Superba 2000 from 1926, number 4, driven by Roberto\u00a0Miatti\u00a0and David\u00a0Borchia.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The 1929 Lancia Lambda Spider\u00a0Casaro, number 41, driven by Luigi\u00a0Belometti\u00a0and Gianluca\u00a0Bergomi\u00a0came in third\u00a0with 12,970 points.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The all-female crew of Silvia Marini and Lucia\u00a0Felipelli\u00a0came in twenty-sixth\u00a0in the 1929 Bugatti T40, number 40.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The race dinner was held at the prestigious Palazzo\u00a0dei\u00a0Papi, one of the famed architectural beauties in\u00a0Viterbo.\u00a0In the 13th century, the Palazzo\u00a0dei\u00a0Papi\u00a0hosted\u00a0history\u2019s\u00a0first and longest conclave which lasted for more than 1,000 days.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The teams then ventured towards the Capital for the parade in Via Veneto.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Third Leg: Rome to Bologna\u00a0<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

For the third leg of the 1000\u00a0Miglia\u00a02021, the automobiles left Rome at 6:15 in the morning\u00a0in their quest to conquer 520 kilometers driving from Rome to Bologna.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Upon leaving Rome the teams passed\u00a0through\u00a0Amelia on their way to\u00a0Orvieto. They also traveled through\u00a0Cortana, the city that features the artistic works of Beato\u00a0Angelico. The group then drove\u00a0towards Arezzo, the birthplace of personalities like\u00a0Petrarca\u00a0and Piero\u00a0della\u00a0Francesca,\u00a0for lunch.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

From Arezzo, the cars headed towards the Chianti region going to Prato. Dinner was held at the Re Enzo Palace in Piazza Maggiore in Bologna.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The third leg not only featured scenic routes but also contained two of the three historic passes.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Andrea\u00a0Vesco\u00a0and Fabio\u00a0Salvinelli\u00a0were able to keep their lead until the end of\u00a0Baschi\u00a010 step in their Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 Super Sport 1929\u00a0with 41,688 points.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Behind them\u00a0by 714 points\u00a0was the Lancia Lambda Spider\u00a0Casaro\u00a01929 driven by Andrea Luigi\u00a0Belometti\u00a0and Gianluca\u00a0Bergomi.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

In third place was the 1927 Lancia Lambda Spider\u00a0Casaro\u00a0driven by\u00a0Gianmario\u00a0Fontanella\u00a0and Anna Maria\u00a0Covelli\u00a0with 41,102 points.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The fourth and final leg of the 1000 Miglia 2021 departed from Bologna, where the vehicles traveled through the cities of Modena<\/a>, Reggio Emilia, and\u00a0Mantova.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

They stopped at Verona for lunch, at the beautiful Piazza Bra in front of the Arena, the location that will host the Aida opera, performed in concert form and led by maestro Riccardo Muti.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Upon leaving Verona the final phase of the race passed Sirmione, with the passage along the lakefront of Garda, Desenzano and a first for the race, Sal\u00f2.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Andrea\u00a0Vesco\u00a0and Fabio\u00a0Salvinelli\u00a0in the 1929 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 Super Sports were the winners of the 1000\u00a0Miglia\u00a02021.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

This is the third time that Andrea\u00a0Vesco\u00a0has claimed victory in the prestigious event in the same car model. He drove with Andrea\u00a0Guerini\u00a0when he first won, and last year, he was driving with his father Roberto when he claimed victory. \u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Andrea Luigi\u00a0Belometti\u00a0and Gianluca\u00a0Bergomi\u00a0in the 1929 Lancia Lambda Spider\u00a0Casaro, number 41, claimed the second place while\u00a0Gianmario\u00a0Fontanella\u00a0and Anna Maria\u00a0Covelli\u00a0in the 1927 Lancia Lambda\u00a0Casaro\u00a0took the third.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The international presence in the race this year was quite high, with 50% of the crews coming from all over the world.\u00a0The largest number of participants, after Italy, was Dutch (146), then Germans (80).<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The most represented brand was the Alfa Romeo, with more than 50 cars in the race, and they were led by an exceptional driver: the President and Executive Director of\u00a0Stellantis\u00a0John Elkann. He was accompanied by his wife Lavinia Borromeo in the 1956 Alfa Romeo 1900 C Super Sprint.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Of the 375 cars left Brescia\u00a0at the start of the 1000\u00a0Miglia\u00a02021, 341 cars finished the race.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
