{"id":323723,"date":"2010-12-02T21:15:06","date_gmt":"2010-12-03T02:15:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportscardigest.com\/?p=323723"},"modified":"2024-12-01T23:32:35","modified_gmt":"2024-12-01T23:32:35","slug":"ferrari-166-mm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/ferrari-166-mm\/","title":{"rendered":"Featured: Ferrari 166 MM"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class='memberful-global-teaser-content'>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">Ferrari 166 MM &#8211; Car Profiles<\/h2>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">Introduction<\/h3>\n<p>Designed for long distance competition, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/1948%e2%86%921950-ferrari-166-mm-barchetta-2\/\">the 166 MM<\/a> took its name from one of the world\u2019s most famous road races, the Mille Miglia, in which the Maranello cars were to triumph again and again.\u00a0Its coachwork was built by Touring using the \u201cSuperlight\u201d method.\u00a0The 166 MM was both extremely light and extremely dynamic whilst still maintaining significant structural stiffness.\u00a0The 166 MM\u2019s engine was also modified for run on \u201cnormal\u201d commercially available fuel.<\/p>\n<p>Technically the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/1948%e2%86%921950-ferrari-166-mm-barchetta-2\/\">Ferrari 166 MM<\/a> shared the tubular frame that was characteristic for all of the company&#8217;s sportscars of the 1940s and 1950s. Suspension was equally straightforward with wishbones at the front and a live rear axle. The Gioacchino Colombo designed V12, now in its third iteration was just under two liters or 166 cc per cylinder. Ferrari outsourced production of the bodies to Touring of Milan who made 25 roadsters using their patented Superleggera technique.
