It is hard to objectively justify the $467k price of the Aventador S Roadster. The infotainment system feels like it is a decade old, the gearbox is clunky and horrible and the ergonomics make it impossible to drive. And yet, this isn\u2019t a car to be objective about. This is a fire breathing roadster supercar with 730hp from a naturally aspirated V12 that has tons of drama and excitement about it whether it is parked or doing 200+mph. Top down doing 200 mph never sounded like more fun than in an Aventador S Roadster.<\/strong><\/p>\n Lamborghini<\/a> has officially unveiled the new 2018 Aventador S Roadster. Set to debut at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show next week, the new Aventador S Roadster, features the same design and performance from the Aventador S Coupe, except for the open-air driving experience, which is made possible by the removable hardtop roof panels that weighs less than 6kg (13lbs).<\/p>\n Lamborghini claims these panels to be convexly molded to give space for the car’s occupants and can be quickly removed and stored in the front trunk. You can also choose the finish for the roof panels for free which includes matte black carbon fiber, high gloss black, shiny visible carbon fiber, and more Ad Personam customization options.<\/p>\n If you are looking to hear that loud V12 engine, you can simply open the rear window with a single button. Or, you can choose to close it if you want to minimize airflow and cabin nose. The 2018 Aventador S Roadster is about 50kg (110lbs) lighter than the Coupe model, with it tipping the at 1,625 (3,583lbs) dry. Although it has its own unique design thanks to its removable hardtop panels, the performance of the car is largely similar to that of the coupe. Just like the coupe model, the open-air model is also powered by a naturally aspirated 6.5-liter V-12 engine which pumps out 730 hp and 509 lb-ft of torque. The V12 engine propels the car to accelerate from 0-62 mph in 3 seconds and can reach a top speed of 217 mph.<\/p>\n Technical upgrades for the 2018 Aventador S Roadster includes four-wheel steering, recalibrated driving modes, updated software in the ESC and a new suspension geometry.\u00a0The roadster is launched in the Ad Personam color called Blue Aegir, inspired by “the peaceful turquoise ocean hiding an indomitable force beneath”, but other color options are available as well. For the interior, customers can choose between a couple of Alcantara and leather options.<\/p>\n Drivers can also enjoy the standard carbon ceramic brakes, 20\/21-inch rims wrapped in Pirelli P Zero tires, a customizable TFT digital dashboard , and an Apple CarPlay smartphone integration added to the infotainment system.<\/p>\n Prices of the \u00a0facelifted version of the 2018 Lamborghini Aventador S Roadster were also revealed. Prices start from \u20ac313,666 ($373,366) in Europe, \u00a3251,462 ($326,257) in the United Kingdom, and $460,247 in the States. In Japan, buyers will have to pay at least 46,267,692 YEN ($423,959), while in China, the supercar can be owned from 7,478,513 RMB ($1,143,300). Alongside class-leading performance figures, the roadster\u2019s unique status is enhanced by multiple color and trim options, including new materials and extensive use of carbon fiber as well as virtually limitless potential through Lamborghini\u2019s Ad Personam personalization program.<\/p>\n Air and space – the aerodynamic roadster design<\/p>\n The roadster maintains the unmistakable design of the Aventador S along with unique features reflecting its roadster persona: a combination of distinctive Lamborghini design DNA and the result of extensive aerodynamic testing.<\/p>\n The car\u2019s rear sports distinctively different lines to the coup\u00e9, giving the roadster its own aerodynamic character. An engine bridge runs from the back window to the rear in a mix of body color and matt black painted carbon fiber engine bonnet blades: a transparent option is also available to show off the V12 engine within. The rear window is electrically operated at the push of a button for drivers wanting to hear the beat of the V12 powerplant: while closed during roofless driving, the window minimizes cabin noise and airflow.<\/p>\n Color and trim, inside and out<\/p>\n Complementing external colors, five interior configurations are offered, featuring leather and Alcantara in single and bi-color combinations and various stitching and trim choices. The configuration internally demonstrates the potential of the Ad Personam program, using Blu Delphinus leather contrasted with Bianco Polar, with Blu Delphinus S-trim stripes on seats, doors and dashboard and even the floor mats in blue and white.<\/p>\n Aventador S Roadster – design and technologies<\/p>\n The Aventador Roadster\u2019s \u2018S\u2019 suffix denotes the design and technology advancements of the new model. The Roadster adopts the four-wheel drive, new active suspension, new four-wheel steering system, and the new EGO driving mode introduced on the Aventador S coup\u00e9, and with the redevelopment of every aspect of suspension and electronic control systems, its \u2018total control concept\u2019 assures superior drive, ride and performance.<\/p>\n Enhanced lateral control from the new four-wheel steering provides improved agility at low speed and more stability at high speed, combined with Lamborghini Dynamic Steering (LDS) for responsive feedback and sharper turn-in. Improved vertical control comes from updated pushrod suspension, new rear springs and Lamborghini Magneto-rheological Suspension (LMS) with revised kinematics adapted to the new four-wheel steering. A new real-time variable damping system optimizes wheel and body control and balance and ground stiffness is maximized.<\/p>\n A optimized ESC system improves longitudinal control for faster and more precise management of traction control and vehicle dynamics depending on driving mode selected, maximizing grip in all conditions and enhancing handling. The permanent four-wheel drive\u2019s calibration allows for the stabilizing effect of the new rear-wheel steering, allowing more torque to the rear axle: when powering off, less torque is shifted to the front axle to allow a sporty but safe drive.<\/p>\n The active rear wing optimizes the car\u2019s aerodynamic balance depending on speed and the selected drive mode, and its significantly enhanced overall aerodynamic design improves front downforce by more than 130% over the previous Aventador. With the wing in optimum position the roadster achieves over 50% overall efficiency at high downforce and in low drag more than 400%.<\/p>\n The Aventador S Roadster\u2019s four driving modes allows selection of STRADA, SPORT and CORSA and the new EGO mode, each influencing every aspect of the car\u2019s behavior through management of traction, steering and suspension. EGO allows the driver to set up his preferred criteria in each mode to suit his driving style.<\/p>\n Accelerating 0-100km\/h in just 3.0 seconds, with a top speed equal to the Aventador S coup\u00e9 of 350 km\/h, the Aventador S Roadster weighs just 50 kg more than the coup\u00e9. Its 6.5 liter V12 engine outputs the same 740 hp as the coup\u00e9, with 690 Nm of torque at 5,500 rpm. The seven-speed lightweight Independent Shifting Rod (ISR) transmission provides robotized gearshifts in up to 50 milliseconds, with carbon ceramic brakes as standard.
