{"id":347785,"date":"2019-07-01T15:50:08","date_gmt":"2019-07-01T15:50:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/?p=347785"},"modified":"2024-02-26T02:40:27","modified_gmt":"2024-02-26T02:40:27","slug":"bmw-plans-to-build-more-m-division-cars-thanks-to-common-engine-architecture","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/bmw-plans-to-build-more-m-division-cars-thanks-to-common-engine-architecture\/","title":{"rendered":"BMW Plans to Build More M Division Cars Thanks to Common Engine Architecture"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">Common Architecture Means Ability to Scale<\/h2>\n<p>If you&#8217;re in love with much of what <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/category\/brand\/bmw\/\">BMW<\/a> is doing at the moment, then you&#8217;ll be thrilled to learn that <strong>more M models are on their way.<\/strong> BMW plans to expand its lineup thanks to a common engine architecture for all M models. <strong>This will cut down on costs, complexities, and the amount of time it takes to build a new M car.<\/strong> This means it&#8217;s easier for BMW&#8217;s M division to scale.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>According to sources, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autocar.co.uk\/car-news\/industry\/bmw-plots-major-expansion-m-performance-range\">Autocar<\/a> learned that BMW will use a common 500cc cylinder capacity. <strong>This cylinder capacity will be used for a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, a 3.0-liter inline-six cylinder engine, and a new 4.0-liter V8 engine.<\/strong> The new cars in the lineup will use this. They will also have manual and automatic transmissions and rear or all-wheel drive.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the engine displacement and architecture news, the company also plans to incorporate more hybrids and plug-in hybrids into the M division lineup. This means that BMW will be electrifying its performance lineup. <strong>This comes as no big surprise judging on how the whole industry has been going lately.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All of these things should be good news for BMW fans. There will be more attempts at the ultimate driving machine from the company and that can&#8217;t be a bad thing. We&#8217;re hoping for a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/bmws-vision-m-next-concept-looks-to-the-future\/\">mid-engine BMW supercar<\/a> someday soon.
