We\u2019re getting them as fast as we can but we could use your help!<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re reaching out to you directly.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Mayor Bill de Blasio (@NYCMayor) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NYCMayor\/status\/1240628796878991362?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 19, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Musk&#8217;s company is unique prepared to manufacture ventilators, as SpaceX manufactures their own life support systems for the Dragon spacecraft, and Tesla cars can be ordered with full HEPA-certified HVAC systems for allergy sufferers.<\/p>\n<p>On a similar note, now that GM is closing down all manufacturing plants after Ford has already done so, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.detroitnews.com\/story\/business\/autos\/2020\/03\/18\/gm-ford-studying-how-make-ventilators-fight-covid-19\/2871290001\/\">both companies are putting their heads together<\/a> with the Federal Government to determine how, and how quickly, they can make ventilators and other vital medical equipment.<\/p>\n<p>While most of the manufacturing sections of both companies factories are designed for large scale work, there are sections that deal with small scale items. Departments that produce items such as steering wheels, dash fascias, switchgear, and the like, that can be converted into making ventilators, valves, and pumps to shore up already strained medical demand.<\/p>\n<p>Similar efforts have taken place overseas, with Fiat in Italy closing down factories, only to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-health-coronavirus-ventilators-italy\/ferrari-fiat-look-at-helping-italy-make-ventilators-in-coronavirus-crisis-idUSKBN2162YT\">announce<\/a> that they will recall only critical staff to make ventilators in the hardest hit European country to date.<\/p>\n<p>There are even stories of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2020\/3\/17\/21184308\/coronavirus-italy-medical-3d-print-valves-treatments\">regular civilians in Europe using 3D printers to create valves<\/a>, ventilator supports, and other components that quickly wear out on medical equipment.
