Throughout the years, more and more passion was put into the mechanical side of the shop, until the gas station half eventually closed down.<\/p>\n<p>Things really kicked into high gear, however, when Alois Ruf Jr took over the company after his father, Alois Ruf Sr, passed away in 1974.<\/p>\n<p>Still, it wasn&#8217;t well known outside of Germany. For regular road use, it was detuned <em>slightly<\/em> to 463 HP.<\/p>\n<p>As well, it took a Bosch Motronic 2.1 race injection system, and an ignition order that was designed for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/1986-porsche-962c\/\">Porsche 962<\/a> race car, and put literal race grade equipment into a road car.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-362676 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/1920px-RUF_CTR_Yellowbird_engine_room.jpg\" alt=\"1987 RUF CTR Yellowbird engine\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1308\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/1920px-RUF_CTR_Yellowbird_engine_room.jpg 1920w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/1920px-RUF_CTR_Yellowbird_engine_room-300x204.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/1920px-RUF_CTR_Yellowbird_engine_room-1024x698.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/1920px-RUF_CTR_Yellowbird_engine_room-100x68.jpg 100w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/1920px-RUF_CTR_Yellowbird_engine_room-770x525.jpg 770w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/1920px-RUF_CTR_Yellowbird_engine_room-1536x1046.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/1920px-RUF_CTR_Yellowbird_engine_room-293x200.jpg 293w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/1920px-RUF_CTR_Yellowbird_engine_room-1400x954.jpg 1400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>However, this makes more sense when you learn that the CTR acronym stands for &#8220;Group <strong>C<\/strong>, <strong>T<\/strong>urbo <strong>R<\/strong>uf.&#8221; Basically, it was a Group C compatible race car that was street legal.<\/p>\n<p>Other models have come and gone, but the CTR Yellowbird has been cemented into supercar history as one of the fastest cars from the 1980&#8217;s. It even outpowered and outran the venerable <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/the-ultimate-guide-to-the-porsche-959-review-price-specs-videos-images-performance-more\/\">Porsche 959<\/a>, being 19 HP more powerful and a single MPH faster at 212 MPH top speed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As the lockdowns due to the global coronavirus pandemic are extended further and further, we often find ourselves without things to do.
