{"id":363070,"date":"2020-06-02T20:53:31","date_gmt":"2020-06-02T20:53:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/?p=363070"},"modified":"2024-02-28T04:30:04","modified_gmt":"2024-02-28T04:30:04","slug":"2021-bmw-4-series-officially-unveiled","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/2021-bmw-4-series-officially-unveiled\/","title":{"rendered":"2021 BMW 4-Series"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today, BMW issued a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.press.bmwgroup.com\/global\/article\/detail\/T0308584EN\/the-all-new-bmw-4-series-coup%C3%A9\">press release unveiling the new 2021 BMW 4 series<\/a>, including a top-spec M440i xDrive coupe flagship model.<\/p>\n<p>The high spec versions of the 4 Series coupes will be powered by inline-six engines, a hallmark of BMW&#8217;s most successful models. The M440i will have a 374 HP twin-turbocharged engine with a mild 48V, 11 HP hybrid boost at low revs until the turbos can spool up.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_363072\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-363072\" style=\"width: 2560px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-363072\" src=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/P90390169-highRes.jpg\" alt=\"2021 BMW M440i\" width=\"4961\" height=\"3307\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-363072\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">2021 BMW M440i<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Only the base model 420i and slightly spritzed up 430i will use inline-four engines, at 184 HP and 255 HP respectively. The diesel variant, the 420d, will have more details released in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>For the diesels, the big difference between this generation and previous generations is the introduction of two-stage turbocharging, allowing for more power across more of the rev range.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_363077\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-363077\" style=\"width: 2560px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-363077\" src=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/P90390048-highRes.jpg\" alt=\"2021 BMW M440i and 430i Coupe\" width=\"4961\" height=\"3307\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-363077\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">2021 BMW M440i and 430i Coupe<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>All models will have BMW&#8217;s 8-speed Steptronic transmission, with no manual option. The only other transmission on offer is the Steptronic Sport transmission, with different ratios to promote acceleration and responsiveness.<\/p>\n<p>The keen-eyed supercars reader will also notice that compared to the last 4 Series, the new G22 generation has a much more streamlined and sloping body, especially along the rear quarter panels and tail sections.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_363076\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-363076\" style=\"width: 1706px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-363076\" src=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/P90390209-highRes.jpg\" alt=\"2021 BMW M440i\" width=\"3307\" height=\"4961\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-363076\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">2021 BMW M440i<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The other key aesthetic design is the first reveal of the final version of the new front grille.
